  • 2012 Robert Mondavi Winery Pinot Noir Reserve 91 Points

    USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros

    Rich fruit, rich oak, not too sweet but distinctly Californian in style, juicy, ripe acidity, very gentle tannins, slightly resinous oak, needs more time to integrate, good intensity and length, no real back-end heat in spite of its 14.5% ABV. A serious Pinot, wholesome and solid but not terribly exciting.

  • 2009 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

    Ripe fruit, just a hint of raisins maybe, firm tannins sheathed in rich flesh but not as powerful as the 2010 and the high-quality oak is slightly more marked; an excellent, even profound Cabernet, but without the impeccable balance of either the 2010 or 2011. 15% ABV.

  • 2010 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 95 Points

    The complete opposite of the 2011 that followed it, deep and closed, brimming with mineral energy and structural power, liquorice, mint, the term iron fist in a velvet glove comes to mind, just a hint of stalkiness, needs another five years to find its feet but is already drinking well on the underlying richness of its fruit. 15% ABV.

  • 2011 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve To-Kalon Vineyard 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

    A really elegant, almost feminine vintage for this wine, harmonious, powerful but wonderfully transparent, black cherries and blackcurrants, firm but gentle tannins are perfectly integrated, beautiful hint of vanilla sweetness from the oak, just the right level of phenolic grip, very pure and long finish. A joy to drink already but should age effortlessly on the strength of its flawless balance. Only 14% ABV, which is a real boon.
