Littorai visit

Someone's last minute cancellation worked to our favor and we were able to join a walking tour and tasting at Littorai. Thank you Casey for the hosting, and we enjoyed the grand tour of the vineyard. So, after a walk through the bio-dynamic operations of the BEAUTIFUL vineyard (pictures to follow), we finished at the barrell room and the tasting 'room' for some checks on the wines :-)

• 2013 Littorai Pinot Noir Vin Gris 88 Points

  Had @ Littorai tour. I Think R. Pavlovitch got it covered pretty well. It is very lively/open on the nose. I would say the berry and lime is stronger than the orange, that needs few more minutes to open up. Very fresh minerals, medium finish. A nice Rose, but I personally have other rose I prefer more (e.g. Virage that provided more for the same price range). Still, very good choice (and great vineyard).

• 2013 Littorai Chardonnay Charles Heintz Vineyard 93 Points

  Now here's a nice Chard that has it all. Fresh minerals, fruit, some oak on the background, well balanced (not too heavy on the palate), and the taste does reflect the vineyard and its unique smell and soil. I think this one did very well and will be enjoyable for years to come. At the moment, 93. But can go up. Voted with the wallet

• 2012 Littorai Pinot Noir Les Larmes

  I read RJ's notes and I tend to agree with most of them. I would say that the visit in the vineyard shows additional layers to the wine (in terms of the floral). Overall, very nice on the cherries and berries. Lighter body compared to the Hirsch. Enjoyable, medium finish. I would give it a 91-92 on a PN scale. Purchased more to test in the future. Hold and don't drink now, it does have good aging potential

• 2012 Littorai Pinot Noir Hirsch Vineyard

  In evaluating current vs. future taste, I would say a comparison of the Hirsch and Les Larmes is crucial. The Hirsch is (as others noted) not ready at this time but I would say is build to last longer. Bolder wine, stronger on the oak and earthy notes and it opens up more as you let it 'sit' in the glass. It does have a unique 'nose' that follows the Littorai line. Verdict- got two to store and forget about. We are not big into PNs but its worth following this one's growth pattern, especially as I compare it to '09 I had in the past and show constant positive growth.
