Introduction

Anne brought the wines, I tasted double blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2012 Hewitson Mourvèdre Baby Bush 86 Points

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

    Decanted, tasted double blind. A fairly pale purpley red. The nose had a nice barnyardy aspect to it with red berries and a bit of Christmas spices. The palate was very fruity, peppery, little tannins and with airtime a bit of sweetness. An amiable wine, good for sipping, but not anything very special.

  • 2013 Gérard Bertrand Réserve Spéciale Pinot Noir - Grenache 80 Points

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Vin de Pays d'Oc

    Decanted, tasted double blind. A pale violet colour. Very fruity on the nose, lots of stewed strawberry. Also very fruity on the palate, a bit like strawberry juice, almost no tannins, rather sweet. Meh, this was not much of a wine.

Closing

I guessed the other way around, the Hewitson had a French feel to it, while the Bertrand was all New World in its approach.
