Introduction
Ten people showed up to drink some solid Bordeaux. Both the food and the wines were great. Other than the 1982 Pichon Lalande being a clear favorite, it was difficult to pick a 2nd or 3rd favorite.
2005 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume Vignoble de Vaulorent 89 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
The starter wine at a nice tasting. I'm not a huge fan of Chablis and this did not convert me. Obviously by my score you can see it was nice enough. It seemed well balanced, with quite a lot of fruit (for a Chablis) in the forefront and a backbone of minerality.

1999 Billecart-Salmon Champagne Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart 89 Points

A nice champagne, but not nearly as good as the last bottle we had a few months ago. Rich vibrant nose of toast. A curious cookie-dough type flavor in the somewhat dissapointing palate. I heard this had just arrived from shipment so maybe it was travel shocked. Or bottle variation at 16 years.

1986 Château Cos d'Estournel 90 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Estèphe
Slow-O for 2 hours, decanted for 45 minutes; drank 1 glass over 3hrs. Really stinky at first, but the funk blew off quickly after a good swirl. Dusty with lighter fruit, sour cherries. A tart drying finish. There were no shortage of opinions at this tasting - myself and another were not that impressed with this, while most others liked it quite a bit. It was still exceptional.

1990 Château Pape Clément 94 Points
France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Slow -O for 2 hours, decanted for 60 minutes; drank 1 glass over 3 hrs and then had another small pour after that. Dense and rich, brooding. There is smoke and tobacco on the nose and palate. The palate is very rich with dark fruit and many layers. There is good complexity. Nice tannins. The wine overall seemed "chewy" at first and calmed down over time.

1982 Château Léoville Las Cases 94 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Julien
Slow-O for about 4 hours, decanted for 45 minutes; drank 1 glass over 3 hours. This is so balanced and seamless, that I struggled to pick out the flavors other than chocolate and rich red fruit. A gorgeous nose.

1982 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 96 Points

Slow-O for about 4 hours, decanted for 1 hour; drank 1+ glass over 3 hours. This was freeking amazing. A beautiful nose and a very impressive palate. This has every Bordeaux descriptor in it except barnyard.

1993 Château Latour Grand Vin 94 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Slow -O for 5 hours and 15 minutes decant. Drank one glass over a couple hours and then another small pour. This did take some time to come around in the glass. Once it did, it was very nice. The nose and palate remained rather spicy with a distinct pepper note. Mostly blue fruit with a little red. Grilled meats.

1983 Château Mouton Rothschild 93 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Slow-O for 5 hours, decanted for 20 minutes. Drank 1 glass over about 1.5 hours. This wine took some time to calm down in the las. There was a lott of earth on the nose and palate. Spice, lead pencil, hers, dry leaves, and a soy-umami thing going on. The finish was tangy and a little tart.

1996 Château d'Yquem 96 Points
France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Slow-O for 6 hours; served at 52 degrees. Smelled the glass for 30 minutes while I finished my reds, then drank it over an hour. This was as good as any dessert wine I've ever had. It is extremely sweet and extremely acidic, while being light on the palate and balanced. Tons of nuance, and at the same time, the purity of the fruit and the sweetness are without reproach. It is both full-bodied and effervescent at the same time. Honey and baking spice are most prominent. One negative was that I did not get much spice at all. The only other times I've had a Sauternes this good were other Yquems, which is unfortunate. A great finish to a strong tasting.
