Introduction

Linne Calodo has been among our favorites over the years, featuring wines that are initially big boned, but with time in the bottle surprisingly light on their feet. The artistry is in the blending. Prices have crept up over the years, making them more of a luxury cuvee for us. However, great art usually comes with a hefty price tag.

  • 2014 Linne Calodo The Contrarian

    USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles

    Grenache blanc and picpoul blanc blend. Wheat-hued with medium legs and a honeyed nose. Great aromatics with mineral elements that carry over onto the palate, where joined by grapefruit zest, barely ripe peaches, whispers of mango and wet stones. Surprisingly short finish. Concrete fermentation.

  • 2012 Linne Calodo Overthinker

    USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles

    Kaboom! Blood red with ample legs. Some horse blanket in the bouquet (57% syrah), but it's all about the gobs and gobs of black and purple fruits. Monstrous when it hits the palate. Ripe raspberries and plum compote with some chalky elements. A surprisingly zesty finish with the tannins starting to integrate, which keep this from being a ponderous one-hit wonder.

  • 2013 Linne Calodo Sticks and Stones

    USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles

    The Grenache (70%) plays lead here. Very lush. Packs a punch up front, provides thrills on the palate and tails off toward the finish. A red flower/rose bouquet with raspberries, currants and sweetened cranberries erupting on the tongue. A 60-second finish, easily. Tannins peek in and out, sometimes overwhelming the palate right now. My guess, though, is that time will take the edges off of this wine, making this more of a cellar candidate than a "drink me now" wine. Still . . . It's luscious.

  • 2013 Linne Calodo Problem Child

    USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles Willow Creek District

    No problem with this bad boy. Very fruit forward from beginning to end. Deep ruby red with expansive legs. The zin is in the spotlight right now, with its red and black fruits and spiciness. Picks up some nice oak/vanilla notes (American oak aging?), but doesn't overdo it. Licorice and tar notes in the finish. Hard to resist; can't imagine this will get any better.
