  • 2013 Château d'Yquem Y de Yquem 97 Points

    I am not a white wine drinker (except for the dessert wines) and had never had Y before. Drank this blind only to find out later what it was. This was outstanding. Luscious with a light delicate nose - mellon and pineapple. This was very smooth with light acidity and not even a hint of sweetness just nicely balanced. Almost a touch too drinkable.

    Very difficult to rate this one. The nose was off putting. Musky shoes and socks (maybe a touch of TCA). Behind that was a hint of fruit with tobacco. A smooth palate that is beginning to thin a little. Without the funky cork/nose this would get a point or two - hopefully just this bottle?

    7/10 tannins with a more classic french bordeaux nose. Could still lie down for a good few years.

  • 2010 Château Cheval Blanc Le Petit Cheval 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

    Classic Merlot based french bordeaux. But this was velvety smooth with 7/10 tannins. It is still young but I think it is drinking beautifully now. This could be one of the nicest Merlot based Bordeauxs I have had.

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

    Drank with the 2004. I slightly preferred the 2004 (against the pundits scoring)but they are very, very close in all aspects. Nose, palate etc... This is slightly less chalky in the nose which is probably due to the age.

  • 2004 Château Cheval Blanc 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

    Drank this from a magnum so it would have aged less quickly than the normal bottles. Clean chalk in the nose. Nice tannins at 7/10 with clear Cab Franc dryness and strength. As with my note on the 1998, these were very similar and clearly from the same producer.

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    Dark yellow and muted fruit nose. Light moth ball (napthalene). On the lighter side, rounded and smooth. While still a great Sauternes it was lacking what I normally expect from D'Yquem.
