Introduction
This tasting featured the current releases from Oregon's Domaine Serene and was hosted by Evan Karp and Ryan Harris from the winery.
NV Domaine Serene "R" 90 Points
USA, Oregon
Ultra pale pink color. 2oz pour over 15 minutes. 100%PN. I found myself really enjoying this again, as much or more than at the chateau. The nose is very fresh and complex with strawberry-rhubarb, light earth and cedar, a bit exotic, citrus and some brisk mineral aromas. The pale color belies the equally vibrant palate that offers similar complexity and a tangy bright, citrus, strawberry-rhubarb laden core with earth and minerality on a medium plus finish.

2012 Domaine Serene Chardonnay Evenstad Reserve 92 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
Light gold color. 2oz pour over 15 minutes. Rock solid and classy again; restrained but with plenty of depth and elegance. The nose has a high tone with apple butter, delicate wood, a touch of vanilla cream. The palate is deep and layered, intense, tree fruits, mild to moderate minerality, youthful with a touch of matchstick on a long finish. 92+ pts.

2013 Domaine Serene Chardonnay Evenstad Reserve 91 Points

Light gold color. 2oz pour over 15 minutes side by side with the '12. This was just bottled in January and we were told that we are the first to taste this vintage. This was bright on the nose, more floral, fresh cut cedar, apple, citrus, youthful. The palate is similar, more steely and youthful than the '12, citrus, melon. Needs some time, but looks impressive.

2009 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir 88 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Dark red color, slightly cloudy. 2oz pour over 15 minutes. All declassified fruit (no Evenstad reserve was made in '09). Sweet, ripe dark red fruit, a bit sappy, brown sugar and spices. The palate offers similar sappy red cherry fruit, Luden's cherry cough drops, a bit of damp earth and some spice. On the whole a nice drink at the price point, though it trends toward being overripe.

2011 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Yamhill Cuvée 89 Points

Medium dark red color. 2oz pour. Funk, damp forest floor, deep berry, strawberry on the nose; palate has earth, briar, cherry, good acid, spice and some more subtle wood. Lighter medium bodied palate with round tannins. This was quite good. Interesting to see CT scores all over the map for this wine. If they were older low scores, I'd say it was a 2011 that needed some time to round out and show, but this pattern has been all along. I don't have a good explanation for it. This bottle was very good, borderline 90pts.

2011 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve 92 Points

Medium dark red color. 2oz pour over 20 minutes; side by side with the '12. Just had this a few days ago and it was equally impressive. A wine that needs a little air to really blossom at this stage; this was becoming ever more impressive. There is just such pretty fruit and great acid with an excellent perfumy nose. The elegance and nuance comes through nicely along with the crisp acidity as a contrast to the youthful, fuller and riper fruited '12. Both are excellent, and maybe one day the '12 will be better, but for now I prefer the '11.

2012 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve 91 Points

Medium dark ruby red color. 2oz pour over 20 minutes side by side with the '11. Nose: cedar wood, subtle dry earth, ripe, darker fruits; palate is bigger, fuller bodied, rich, layered black cherry and black raspberry, primary, sweet fruit, baked strawberry pie. Will be so interesting to watch the '12's over 10 years or so. 91(+?)pts.
