2011 vintage. 03/04/14 disgorgement. Rich red colour with some orange tinges throughout. Cherry, rose, earth and mandarin. Fresh acid line on the palate, very clean and pure with medium bodied fruit. Follows through nicely.
Floral, pear, orange peel, slightest touch of honey. Has plenty of fruit sweetness and it has filled out since the last time I tried it, while still having the same good acid profile. Powerful but cleansed by the acidity. Developing well, still has some time left to go to hit its peak.
Like flat cider. Menthol, pear and apple. Fairly dilute on the palate, it does have some texture from the long skin contact but it doesn't cover the lack of depth. Okay price for what it is, but one for the diehard enthusiasts of this style only.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Double decanted about 2 hours prior to serving. Undergrowth, rhubarb and cherry, does show some oak but it isn't distracting or overpowering to me. Quite resolved profile to the palate, it is drinking well already. Not overly complex but does have interest and decent structure. Drink over the next 4-5 years.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Consistent with previous bottle. Tight nose, ash, tar, some sappiness and raspberry aromas. The tannins grip and provide excellent structure. There is a leaness to the fruit but it still feels balanced. If it had an extra dimension it would be exceptional but as it stands it is "just" great. Give it time to develop and hopefully it hits those heights!
Popped and poured. Ash, cherry, blueberry, redcurrant, violet florals and well integrated oak. Strong tannins are the structure for the palate, there is some powerful fruit that does provide an early approachability angle. Very good now and should be served well by further ageing time.
