I did get a sense of slightly sturdy, robust wines here, but also elegance and suppleness in the more mature wines. The 72 Gaunoux for pleasure now, but several contenders and the 98 de Montille should be lovely further down the road. The 90 Comte Armand remarkable for its youthfulness and denseness in a twenty five year old.

Quite a bit darker than the 79 Ampeau alongside. Darker red fruit and a touch of wood polish on the nose. Fuller on palate. Good structure. Dustier and grainier than the Ampeau. Probably a struggle after more than a small glass. **

Mid garnet. Nicely savoury with quite a meaty nose. Very attractive. Positive attack. Nicely vigorous. Fairly light and silky with a sense of structure on the finish. ***

Nicely dense on the nose with a touch of raspberry and a savoury meatiness. Real strawberry confiture nose with air. Very light and inconsequential but very pretty. After an hour or so tis becomes more diffuse on the nose. ***

An absolutely beautiful ruby. So vibrant. Dark strawberry fruit on the nose. Lovely line too. Nicely mineral with a fine grippy line. Quite long. Feels leaner and a little more sturdy with air. ***1/2

Slightly cloudy. Pale garnet. Mellow caramel, a pinch of smoke and some sous-bois. Vibrant. Very smooth, sweet-fruited harmonious and quite long. Holding together well. Complete. ****

Very dark and dense. Just about a deep ruby hue, but only jut moving from opaque to semi-translucent. Dense fruit. Very dense and tannic. Dense and persistent nose. Plush fruit. Come back in a decade or more. **(**)

Lovely colour. Relatively dense and monolithic on the nose. Bright red fruit . Dense but quite sleek. Silky fine tannins. Far more 88 than a Dujac Roche here a few weeks ago, but not the surly side of the vintage. Very attractive and plenty of interest. ****

Blind. 1970s by the look of it. Has the. Texture and feel of one of the older 1ers tonight. Pale mid garnet. A touch high-toned. Nicely mellow, a touch of caramel. Fine tannins. Creaks a bit with air to suggest a fairly robustly agricultural nose, but very good especially in the context. ***
