A delicious wine, this was very enjoyable. It had a lovely Vouvray nose, with warm, malty aromas of honey and marzipan, caramel and brown butter, with some lanolin and perfumed floral notes drifting alongside seashell and mineral tones. The palate carried on with the same honeyed character, showing slightly candied flavours of lemon peel and ripe apples drizzled with some caramel notes and a nice glow of nectar on the midpalate. There was a touch of minerally seashell and then little twists of citrus and spice at the finish – it was just a little short right at the end I thought. Otherwise, this was very nice. There was a nicely fresh, open feel about it that I liked, with just the right amount of off-dry sweetness balanced by fresh acidity that lent the wine a nice sense of poise. Drinking beautifully and quite delicious now, this was a very nice wine.

An attractive wine – this was a rather ripe, forward expression of the Folatieres terroir. It had a pretty nice nose, with cream and ripe yellow fruit aromas seasoned with a little touch of exotic spice. It felt ripe on the palate too, with sunny flavours of pineapple and sweet red apples wed to toasty tones of brioche, cream biscuits and roasted nuts. I would have said that this was a bit too modern and overworked if not for the nice clean feel and balance it had, along with a good minerally undertone driving through the sweet fruit and toasty tones and into a long finish. While quite approachable and very pleasant now, it is still clearly in its infancy – this should improve quite nicely over the short to medium term.

Pleasant but simple – this drank more like a decent village than a 1er Cru. It started with a bright, polished, rather modern nose, with sweet tones of pineapples, yellow fruit and cream that would not be out of place in a Napa or Aussie Chardonnay. The little touch of mineral and some floral aromas that came up in the glass with time were closer to Puligny though. The palate was clear and white fruited on the attack, before opening up into fleshier pineapple tones on the midpalate, and than a dash of lime peel, some mineral and a little spice at the finish. I thought this needed a touch more acidity, because it felt just a bit flat on the back end. That aside, this was decent, if rather simple wine.

A decent enough wine, but still rather too young. The nose had lots of savoury tones, with earth and mushroom, meat and mineral aromas underlying tight little notes of dark cherries and plums. A touch of spice and some rubbery scents started coming up with time. While showing some signs of development, the nose was still quite tight and not giving much. This was reflected in the cool, clean but rather subtle and understated tones of dark cherries and berries coiled around a solid core of earthy, stony mineral on the palate. There was then just a little twist of herb trailing away into a slightly austere finish. I thought there was a good bit of quality here – there was good depth and breadth and decently fresh balance – but it was missing a little approachability at the moment and came across rather lacking in charm. This clearly needs a good 4-5 years in the bottle yet to slowly unfurl. I hope it will take on a bit more deliciousness by then. 91+
