Saturday Burgundy Flight-Mostly 2012's

Unfortunately, this was mostly an unimpressive array of mediocrities that apparently need to be sold. I'll pass, thank you.

• 2012 Thibault Liger-Belair Bourgogne Blanc

  France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc

  Light yellow. Ripe apples. Nice texture with light application of wood. Open. Really good quality Bourgogne.

• 2013 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Bourgogne Blanc

  France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc

  Pale. Some flowers on the nose. Lighter weight. Clean, no wood. Apple fruit but somewhat neutral flavors until the end when you sense some backbone and structure that needs a bit of time.

• 2012 Jacques Bavard Auxey-Duresses Les Clous Blanc

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Auxey-Duresses

  Medium yellow. Pineapple and toasty oak. Medium weight, some caramel. Neither enough fruit nor acidity. Much too much wood for the modest material.

• 2013 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet

  Flower and peach aromatics. Lactic tones to complement the fruit. Elegant feel with back end austerity suggesting the need for several years in bottle. A very good basic Puligny.

• 2012 Domaine Marius Delarche Corton-Charlemagne Reserve

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

  Creamy nose. Medium weight. Trace of citrus but mostly lactic, cheesy flavors. Compared to other Corton Charlemagnes, unconvincing in terms of its depth or length. Quite tart finish. Good but not worth the price.

• 2012 Jacques Bavard Auxey-Duresses Rouge

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Auxey-Duresses

  Pale color. Brambly nose. Graphite, licorice, and black fruit in a light weight package. Short finish, overly tannic. Sorry, not much of interest here.

• 2012 Faiveley Mercurey Clos Rond

  France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey

  Pale. Very light body. More earth and anise than fruit. Tannic back end. Just not enough underneath the structure.

• 2012 Domaine Marius Delarche Aloxe-Corton

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Aloxe-Corton

  Light ruby. Slightly pungent. Medium weight. Tart black fruit upfront, then earth and anise toward the end. Not too tannic. Good flavor and concentration for this level.

• 2012 Domaine Humbert Frères Gevrey-Chambertin

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

  Light center. Gamy aromatics. Light to medium weight. Nice combination of slightly sweet red fruit and soil. Good Gevrey style, but there are many other wines I'd rather buy at this price point.

• 2012 Gros Frère et Sœur Clos Vougeot Musigni

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

  Light ruby. All wood char. Medium weight. Fairly supple and not that tannic for Clos Vougeot. Smoky red fruit carries through to the end. As is often the case with this producer, too much wood. There is very little that would make one think that this is truly Grand Cru quality. A bad joke at the retail price.
