Frothy light pink. Medium weight. Dry, flavors of bark and tobacco. Tannic finish. Pretty interesting stuff, I'd say, not having run into many sparkling Cabernet Francs.
France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine
Full yellow. Very full and lush for Muscadet yet good acidity. More vegetal than fruit elements. Dry and long with lots of stone throughout. Certainly atypical in its weight and feel, but pretty admirable nonetheless.
Bright yellow. Lots of pear and peach scents. Rich stone fruit, just off dry. Great caressing texture and finishing soil with adequate but not scintillating acidity. Drinking splendidly now. Its shape and length actually remind me of Grand Cru white Burgundy.
Medium yellow. Citrus notes. Medium weight (not nearly as full as the Baudry). A hint of residual sugar, quince, clove spice, a dash of herbs, and an earth filled finish more evocative of Savennieres than Vouvray. Extremely fascinating wine that seems like a hybrid between Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon, the same sense I have when drinking Romorantin.
Medium ruby core, lighter edge. Wild aromatics of brettanomyces, herbs, graphite, and stewed tomato. Equally eclectic on the palate-medium weight, the question of some carbonic elements, oregano, red cherry, and a tannic finish. Who knows what to make of this or tell where it is going, but it is singular and unique.
France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny
Clear ruby core. Gently herbal nose. Light weight, clean, herbs, tobacco, and significant inner mouth perfume. Lightly tannic finish. Lovely example of lighter Loire Cabernet Franc for early drinking since not overly assertive varietal elements and well balanced.
I had never heard of this red Mellot wine. Pretty deeply colored for Pinot Noir. Fragrant, stone tinged dark red fruit. Earthy, herbaceous entry followed by a transient burst of candied red fruit and then a lean, dry, almost astringent finish. Voluminous for Loire valley Pinot but essentially austere and full of soil. Not great today-will that hint of great fruit blossom and fill out the wine?

2014 Pierre Riffault Sancerre Les 7 Hommes
France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
Light amber orange. Herbal aromatics. Light body, some glycerine. More herbs than fruit in the mouth, strong, rising acidity. Serious, dry rose.
