Fairly attractive nose of apple, pear and florals. Palate is a little more bland though, decent length with some sweetness from the dosage. Nice overall.
Disgorged 05/13. Apple, pear, musk and saline character. Lean on the palate with plenty of that pear flavour. Good length and nice lemon acidity that gives it a tangy aftertaste.
Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
Orange peel, soapy florals and some lees influenced aromas. A fair bit of dosage here and the acidity feels separated rather than integrated. Decent but not special.
Disgorged September 2000. Toast, butterscotch, herbal and mint with an oxidative edge to it. Fair bit of body and power, carries well enough. Drink now.
Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley, Pokolbin
Blind. Apricot, mango, papaya - seems to have some botrytis which was confirmed on the reveal. Rather sweet, it has decent length but you have to be a fan of sweetness to find the balance ideal.
Oak, spice, butter, lemon and melon. Palate is well balanced and in a good phase of its development, with roundness but also still the fruit showing freshness. A confident wine without any awkward edges.
Smoky and obvious oak on the nose. Mouthfilling with sweet fruit and a full bodied drive. Stylistically not my favourite but would certainly find some fans.
Pear, graphite, oak, lemon and spice. Palate is nicely restrained, if the texture were a little better this would be excellent. I still really quite like it though.
Very peppery, with stalk and wild floral notes. Palate is very light on the fruit, there isn't that much interest to the palate either. Decent but unexciting.
Disgorged July 2012. Sultana, cherry and spice. A bit heavy on the palate, there is some nice acidity but its a letdown compared to the complexity of some of these that I've had before.
Tomato juice, stalk, basic and charcoal. The palate is quite youthful, there is some good length to it as well but the structure isn't quite in sync with the fruit. Overall though it is a bit all over the place.
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
Carbonic influence, strawberry and a herbal undertone. Rather enjoyable palate, plenty of spice to compliment the sweet red fruit. Fresh and vibrant for now.
Earth, redcurrant, some blackberry and pepper. Palate is medium bodied and while it has some of the spice of the nose it doesn't really stand out in any way. Competent but not very memorable.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Clean nose - raspberry, plum and ash. Fresh fruit on the palate, with good length, though it is very straightforward - a twist would give it some interest.
