Introduction

During our Memorial Day weekend, my wife and I decided to look back at some 2002 Napa and Washington Cabs.

    Deep tanzanite color leads to a big nose of dark chocolate covered blackberries. Full body is all about big beautiful California fruit wrapped in a velvet finish. Very enjoyable wine.

  • 2002 Peter Michael Les Pavots 97 Points

    Wow! This is really good! In the glass this shows medium ruby color with slight bricking. Textbook nose of currant, cigar box and a hint chocolate begins this wine. The body shows off a great combination of red and black fruit surrounded by secondary flavors of shiitake mushroom, clove, Asian spice. Chocolatey finish lasts 45 seconds.

    This was my favorite wine of the weekend!

  • 2002 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 95 Points

    Decanted 5 hours. Deep tanzanite color leads to a nose of blueberry pie and dark chocolate. Full bodies contains loads of blue and black fruit but little to no secondary flavors. Amazing finish lasts well over a minute.

    This bottle seems less evolved than bottle one year ago.

Closing

While all the wines are in a good place, the Peter Michael is easily the wine of the weekend. I think all of these wines will last for many more years in a great place but the Quilceda is the only one I think could possibly improve with more time.
