Flight 1 (1 Note)

With charred courgette, English Feta and radish salad.

  • 2013 Le Grappin Savigny-lès-Beaune Blanc

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune

Usually sourced from Les Vermots and Les Gollardes, but the fruit from the latter vineyard replaced this year by bought in fruit. Medium lemon. Nose shows tropical fruit (grapefruit), some chalky minerality. Medium bodied, tropical again, vibrant acidity carrying a good length finish. Very good, drinking now. ***.

  • 2013 Le Grappin Santenay 1er Cru Gravières Blanc

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay 1er Cru

Flight 3 (1 Note)

With Snails, Red Wine & Garlic

  • 2013 Le Grappin Savigny-lès-Beaune

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune

This has a lovely, fresh, pure fruited nose, with raspberries and strawberries bursting from the glass, a touch of underlying Savigny earth too. On the palate it is medium bodied, vivacious, with pure red fruit and a touch of earth again, fine tannins and a appetising medium/good length finish. A real joy to drink and enjoy now, easily ***1/2.

Flight 4 (2 Notes)

With Braised Shoulder and Roasted Rump of Lamb, Peas, Broad Beans and Marjoram

  • 2012 Le Grappin Beaune 1er Cru Boucherottes

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Medium/deep ruby. Nose a touch closed, showing red and blue fruits. Medium bodied, notable firm, but fine tannins, but bigger in build than the 2013 which followed it. Good depth of fruit and a very good length finish suggest that this should improve with a few more years. **(**?).

  • 2013 Le Grappin Beaune 1er Cru Boucherottes

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Medium ruby/garnet, lighter hued than the 2012. Fresh red fruity nose, open and fragrant, a slight (not unattractive) herbal note. Medium bodied, refreshing, tasty, attractively "spare", slightly crunchy red fruit, lively acids, good length finish. Delicious, drinking now and again easily ***1/2.
