  • NV Besserat de Bellefon Champagne Brut 89 Points

  • 2012 Maison Champy Pinot Noir Bourgogne Signature 86 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

    (6/22/2015)

By the glass in Reims. Blackberry, boysenberry on nose and palate. Very pretty fruit with subtle spice that seems to have a hint more background oak influence still coming through vs what I'd expect. That aside, this is very good value and very good for its level.

Flight 2 - Dinner at Hostellerie des Clos in Chablis (1 Note)

  • 2007 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

    (6/23/2015)

Legitimately rockstar wine. Apple and quince with ginger and lemongrass. This was popped and poured, so I asked for a carafe, and this kept expanding and lengthening for the next 2+ hours as it also got closer to room temp. Just entering its peak drinking window, I'd expect this will be even better in 5 years, and even better yet in 10.

Ripe and rich Apple and pear with great spice and stunning concentration for its level. Great power and length, this is still just a baby.

  • 2012 Georges Noellat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Petits Monts 87 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

    (7/1/2015)

Red cherry on nose and palate that started off as forward and charming but slightly simple. Nothing else really ever developed here. Modest tannins and acidity make me think this will remain a near-term drinker. Others at lunch largely agreed. Critics' reviews make me wonder if this was an off bottle, but nobody detected any issues.

  • 2006 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cros Parantoux 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

    (7/1/2015)

Lush black cherry and berry on nose and palate with some faint red cherry on palate. Big spice box is very exciting. Starts with forward fruit that is seemingly fat and easy, but with excellent hidden, background structure that bodes well for the wine's potential longevity for a 2006.

Flight 6 - Lunch at Ma Cusine (1 Note)

  • 2009 Domaine Ramonet Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

    (7/3/2015)

With lunch at Ma Cuisine. Wintergreen hints with opulent ripe orchard fruit aromas and subtle spice. Lush apple flavors with some peach hints and background sweet spice. Large, fat and forward with moderate acidity and energy. Great now. 2014-2029.

Flight 7 - Dinner at Spring in Paris (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Domaine Leflaive Chevalier-Montrachet

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

    (7/4/2015)

Popped, decanted and poured. Extremely ripe lemon and lemon peel aromas with tropical hints. Nicely floral to start, nice spiced throughout with clear signs of maturity. I like this wine a lot and would consider it an excellent (94 point?) wine if it were ten years older and this was graceful aging, but I think this is much too advanced for a 2010, and would consider this ~91 points if the bottle is representative, based on my expectations for a wine at this age from this vintage.

  • 2011 Michel & Stéphane Ogier Côte-Rôtie 91 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

    (7/4/2015)

Black and blue fruit aromas and flavors with anise, black pepper and some clove. Forward throughout, easily accessible and fun. It was wonderful to enjoy a full bottle tonight after spending 3+ hours with Stephane Ogier in the vineyards and cellar today. Very good near- and medium-term.
