Introduction

A truly remarkable experience to try so many Dagueneau wines together. It's not an opportunity I have often, and it's not something I can generally afford. The wines were very good, sometimes excellent, but none were mind-blowing, and only a handful were worth anywhere near their asking price. Nevertheless, they are well known for a reason... these wines are special and they generally have character that you can't find elsewhere. At half the price, I think these would be excellent wines to buy. The Petit Manseng was an interesting wine to finish with. I can't say I've ever tried the grape before, and it had interesting minty character that I really enjoyed, though again the price was much higher than it should have been.

Flight 1 (9 Notes)

  • 2008 Didier Dagueneau Blanc Fumé de Pouilly 88 Points

France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé

Nose has grassy, rich, moderate intensity; palate is high acid, well balanced, well integrated, hay, grassy; medium-long finish. Very nice, balanced, enjoyable but could use more character for the price. 88

  • 2010 Didier Dagueneau Blanc Fumé de Pouilly 89 Points

High intensity nose with great concentration of grass, grapefruit, richness; palate is medium bodied, medium-high acid, fades a tad through the midpalate, grassiness again; finish is medium length. The nose is more interesting than the 2008 but the palate is less persistent. 89-90

Completely different. Nose has very high intensity, very ripe fruit, tropical, mango and passion fruit, very reminiscent of am paper (Indian dried mango), nose has pronounced sweetness; palate is medium body, medium-high acid, tastes like it has slight RS though it may be the higher alcohol content. 91

  • 2010 Didier Dagueneau Les Jardins de Babylone Moelleux 92 Points

    France, Southwest France, Jurançon

Green-gold color; nose has a little biscuity notes, spice, clove?, coriander?, cardamom?, definitely some kind of spice, much less aromatic than the sauvignon blanc though; palate is definitely sweet, slight mint on the midpalate and finish, very savory, very nice balance and complexity; finish is long. I love the minty savoriness, fantastic. 92-93
