A relatively high-end pinot tasting was the idea. I'm writing this up way too late to remember anything in detail I didn't write down - don't remember the food but remember it was quite good.
The Williams Selyem was mine WOTN by a small margin. More importantly, I'm happy to have discovered Rhys/Alesia. My style of pinot, from California.

Lovely lemon meringue profile. Great fruit, nice acids. Very, very enjoyable. 91+

1996 Vins Fluchot Charmes-Chambertin 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Color is a bit thinnish red, turning slowly to brown. On the nose, cedar, cigar box, and some cherry notes. Elegant wine, tart cherry initially. Gradually opens up with more robust fruit and some nice minerality.

Darker red than the Fluchot. Lovely fruit on the nose. Really nice, elegant wine. Fleshes out nicely with a little time in the glass.

2004 Rhys Alesia Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard 91 Points

Almos a menthol note on the nose. A bit hightoned, but otherwise beautiful nose. On the palate, this is an elegant, if slightly simple, soft wine with great darker fruits. My kind of pinot - wish it were a touch more complex.

This is a big bruiser of a pinot noir. Really packs a punch. A bit of spice, big bright fruits. Not enough acid or tannin structure for me. Not my style. Given the style of the chard, I'm surprised the pinot is like this.

2003 W.H. Smith Pinot Noir Hellenthal Vineyard 91 Points

Serious menthol nose. Much more elegant than the Alfred, but still quite a big wine. Dark fruit, slightly sweet.
