Introduction

A BYO to go with a menu based on hunt season.
First time at Gresca and I won't stop recommending the place. One of the top kitchens in Barcelona, at level of well above of many of the city one-Michelin starreds.
All wines were opened right before lunch.

  • 2013 Yann Durieux Bourgogne Blanc Cas D'eau 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc

PnP. Served too cold but very buttery on nose once it reaches a higher temperature. Very lean and focused on palate. Pastry flavors and delicious unctuosity but don't get me wrong, it's not fat. It's linear and in my opinion it may lack some weight in mid palate, something that would be resolved with some age in bottle. Good wine but as it often happens, doesn't meet expectations... as of today. 89-91

  • 1973 Faustino Rioja I Gran Reserva 93 Points

    Spain, La Rioja, Rioja

Second bottle in a month, both very good. Decanted for sediments.

Pristine bottle: Not much to say here as it's texbook Rioja. Typical bouquet and palate of old, well aged Rioja: Mushrooms, cedar, cigar box, dried fruit, red fruit with liquour. A pleasure of a 42 year old wine. Both bottles drank very good although this wine had a bit less energy on palate than the previous one. Both bottles courtesy of a good friend, thanks Oscar, I know you will read this one! 92-93

  • 2000 Domaine Gauby Côtes Catalanes La Muntada 94 Points

France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Côtes Catalanes

Not decanted, let it slow-ox for 1 hour... didn't seem it needed more.

Medium ruby color. First pour and it's signing right off the bat! super intense and open nose with red fruit, asian spices, black pepper and kirsh liquor.

Wonderful palate: elegant, silky, mouth coating, fresh with suave flavors and very long finish. Wow. I didn't know what to expect from this vintage and was actually ready for a powerful wine, yet this one was more about elegance and silkiness in a pinot-like style. No need to wait more. 93-95

  • 2011 Château Le Puy Cuvée Emilien 89 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Francs Côtes de Bordeaux

No formal notes. Drank between other big wines and didn't pay enough attention. It was popped and poured, showed an expressive nose with plenty of red fruit. It was nice but didn't get my attention nor left anything remarkable - good or bad - to remember.

  • 2003 Les Forts de Latour 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Bottle previously opened for 1 hour. Certainly if served blind, wouldn't have guessed a 13 year old wine but it's clearly a warm vintage.

Dark in appearance, plenty of black fruit, black licorice and kirsh liquour. It shows very young in palate, being very powerful with present tannins. I didn't feel it heavy but obviously in the powerful and bold type of wines side. A wine to keep that may be enjoyed with proper decant. 92-93
