Introduction

A tasting of Dry Creek Vineyards, some newer vintages for the shop.

Flight 1 - Whites (3 Notes)

  • 2004 Dry Creek Vineyard Fumé Blanc Sonoma County 88 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County

    Nice fruity nose of tropical fruits, pineapple, and mango. The palate isn't necessarily a "Fume" style, but does offer some oak spices and high acidity. Long finish with a touch of herbal grassiness too. Very nice bottle, and very affordable.

  • 2004 Dry Creek Vineyard Chardonnay Russian River Valley 78 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

    Buttery pear on nose with touch of creamed corn. Oak dominates palate and is spicy, almost raw wood-like. Not too much fruit shows through the toasty oak. Very low acidity too. Not my style.

  • 2005 Dry Creek Vineyard Chenin Blanc Dry Clarksburg 84 Points

    USA, California, Central Valley, Clarksburg

    Nose is beautiful and rich of tropical fruits, papaya, mango, lychee. The palate is kind of rich with dried pineapple concentrate, off dry in style, and low acidity on the finish. Better than most domestic Chenins, just wish the acidity was in balance.

Flight 2 - Merlots (2 Notes)

  • 2003 Dry Creek Vineyard Merlot Dry Creek Valley 89 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley

    Almost old-world nose of black cherry, spicy oak, and earth with some tobacco. The palate is gripping and intense coffee, tobacco leaf, black inky fruit components. This is a full bodied, aggressive tannin Merlot. Balanced too!

  • 2002 Dry Creek Vineyard Merlot Bullock House 83 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley

    I surprisingly enjoyed the regular Merlot better than the single vyd. Aromatics are lighter with red plum and mocha. The palate is full bodied and soft with blackberries, mocha, toast, and velvety tannins. Acidity is higher than the regular bottling as well.

Flight 3 - Zins (2 Notes)

  • 2004 Dry Creek Vineyard Zinfandel Heritage 88 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County

    Wild berries and hints of plum on the nose along with a nose full of alcohol. The palate is very nice with red berries, cherries, bitter chocolate, and red currants towards the long finish. Not too jammy overall and has a nice tannin structure. I would say it's a more serious style Zin instead of the typical jammy fruit bombs, which are also very nice.

  • 2002 Dry Creek Vineyard Old Vine Zinfandel 80 Points

    Liked the Heritage Clone Zin much better. This one showed some age with the fruit subsiding and the alcohol and spice coming through. The style is way jammier, spicier, and loaded with alcohol. Almost in your face in style. Some like this style, but not for me.

Closing

Good, but unimpressive. Great QPRs on most of their wines though.
