Visit to Elio Grasso's beautiful estate with gorgeous views of Piemonte. Robert and Francesca were wonderful hosts, generous with their time, pouring excellent wines.

Expressive nose of apple, pear, crushed rock, and oaky spice. The palate is crisp and fresh, with apple and citrus flavors and mouth-watering acidity.

Light ruby. Floral nose of wild berries, strawberries, and melange of flowers. Vinous on the palate. Medium-light in body, with great acidity, soft tannins, and a sweet finish.

2013 Elio Grasso Barbera d'Alba Vigna Martina 90 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba
Deep, dark, crimson. Nose of cherry, plum, and oaky spice. Palate shows ripe fruit and great acidity in a big, full-bodied style. Aged 18 months in barrique, 50% 1-year-old and 50% old, which is evident. A great Barbera.

Lifted, floral bouquet of cherry, rose, cedar, and licorice. Sweet red & dark berries on the palate. Already quite accessible.

2011 Elio Grasso Barolo Ginestra Casa Maté 92 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Garnet. Nose of sweet cherry with spice and balsamic notes. Still light and surprisingly accessible, but a bigger, darker style than the Gavarini Chiniera. Teeth-coating, chewy tannins. Give this time.
