Our group held the first wine dinner of the year. The theme was Barolo and Burgundy. Eight of us got together and Chef Ruta prepared a ten course meal that was unbelievably good. The service was perfect as usual.
The Cristal was perfect, the Dom was delicious and the Exquise was interesting.
The Dauvissat was a bit dumb, the Roulot Charmes reminded me the Lafon version and the Roulot Perrieres was a bit like the Coche version.
The 10 Rousseau CdB flirted with perfection, the RSV didn't want to play but the Echezeauxs were ready and willing.
Not a good night for Barolo, corked and incorrect mostly.
Best Sauternes vs best Barsac. Preferred the Sauternes. The 88 D'Yquem was singing.
The dinner last until 12:30 for some of us. What a night!
1979 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut 99 Points
France, Champagne
Absolutely captivating nose displaying fully mature complex grand cru white Burgundy nose, rich yellow fruits, tarte tatin, smoke, almond paste, honey and mineral. Incredible concentration, beautifully layered sweet fruits, fine mousse, strong presence of mineral, bright acidity and lovely long seamless finish. One of the top five Champagnes of my life, combining power, energy, grace, balance and precision. Incredible experience.

2004 Dom Pérignon Champagne Rosé 96 Points

Pure decadence, sweet red fruits, candied strawberry and raspberry, pinot rose, more pronounced smoke salmon than the last bottle, brioche and mineral. Incredibly fine mousse, airy, candied red fruits, limestone, bright acidity and seamless long finish. Absolutely delicious.

NV Jacques Selosse Champagne Exquise Sec 92 Points

Some resemblance to Initial but noticeable sweetness. Oxidized apple peel, golden delicious, honey mead wine and dry orange peel. Medium concentration, bright acidity and the finish that resembles sour beer. Very unique champagne.
