Introduction

We knew the theme, but all wines were tasted blind.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Maison Thorin Brouilly 80 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Brouilly

Cherries and some spiciness in the bouquet, also some earthiness and fruit yoghurt. On the palate minerals, primary cherries and raspberries as well as spiciness. Drying in the finish. High acidity. In fact the wine is fairly supple and friendly, but there is no finesse at all.

  • 2011 Château de Raousset Chiroubles 78 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Chiroubles

Clear purple red. Creamy cherry yoghurt in the bouquet. A supple start followed by sharp tart cherry acidity and quite much bitterness. Overall a sourish wine with a short finish.

  • 2010 Michel Tête Juliénas Domaine du Clos du Fief 85 Points

At first a touch of barnyard in the bouquet which blew off, then raspberries. On the palate a juicy start with red fruits and ok soft acidity. Some lactic impressions and minerals. Soft tannin. A friendly and elegant wine, but some heat in the finish.

  • 2011 Jean-Paul Thevenet Morgon Vieilles Vignes 87 Points

  • 2004 Château d'Issan 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Deep dark Bordeaux red color with a carmine rim. Intense bouquet with cassis, leather, sweet spices, licorice and cedar. On the palate a firm amount of sweetness, cassis and other ripe black berry fruits, blood, sweet spices, some chocolate and good acidity. Soft tannin. The wine was surprisingly mature for a 2004. Later we heard that from release until 2011 the wine has been stored too warm most of the year.
