Flight 1 (10 Notes)

  • 2005 Riff Pinot Grigio 87 Points

    Italy, Delle Venezie

Very nice quaffer. Nice medium body, along with ood fruit. This isn't the simple fruit bomb that you usually get at this price. The acidity is a little lower then most Italian PG's I've had, which isn't a bad thing. 87+

  • 2004 Alois Lageder Pinot Bianco Alto Adige - Südtirol 84 Points

Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Alto Adige - Südtirol

Brighter then Riff, but not as much fruit or enjoyment from this bottle. Maybe the extra year? Did not stand out. Reaching for mid 80's.

  • 2004 Avignonesi Rosso di Montepulciano 83 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montepulciano, Rosso di Montepulciano

Nice nose of plums and vanilla, and maybe a hint of clove. the palate doesn't really follow through. A little bitter, and no lushness at all. Fairly light tannins. 82-83

  • 2002 Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 85 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montepulciano, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano

Dark ruby color. Kind of hollow on the mid palate, although there is some pretty good fruit on the front. Rather non-descript, though. Soft, and ready to drink. 84-85

  • 2001 Boroli Barolo 91 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

3rd vintage I've tried of this wine, and I've enjoyed them all. This wine seems much more typical of barolo then the '00, which was sofeter and more plush. Bright nose, with tobacco and plums dominating a complex nose. Pretty big tannins for a medium bodied wine, suggesting a few years would be beneficial. Beautiful, long finish. Did start to open up in about fifteen minutes. 90-91+, as I think this will be rocking around 2010.

  • 2001 Fattoria La Valentina Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Spelt 84 Points

    Italy, Abruzzi, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

Huge tannins without the fruit and support to back them up. Couldn't really get around this. Mid 80's

  • 2004 Coltibuono Cancelli Toscana IGT 86 Points

  • 2004 Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico 83 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

Soft wine. A little leather, with light tannins. Nothing jumps out at me with this wine, its fine, but not as interesting as most of the less expensive stuff Badia offers. 83-84

  • 2005 Saracco Moscato d'Asti

    Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Moscato d'Asti

This is one of the better moscato's I'ev had, but I don't really like moscato and try to avoid it. Fairly sparkly, with nice fruit, but the acidity on these are always too low for me to really enjoy them. This is better then most, though...
