Introduction

Every participant had to bring a wine of the theme. We did not know which wines were brought by the others. All wines were tasted blind, also without knowing when the wine you brought was poured.

  • 2006 McManis Family Vineyards Petite Sirah 90 Points

    USA, California

Deep bouquet. Dark. Chocolate, black fruits, cassis, cherries, eucalyptus. On the palate the same fruits and a lot of sweetness. Soft and very ripe tannin. Full bodied. A long and round finish. Harmonious wine. Ready now, but hurry at all. Very friendly wine.

  • 2005 Dominus Napanook Red 89 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Anise and bird cage sand in the bouquet. Some spiciness and fruits as well. Very elegant start. Ripe red and black fruits. Some spiciness again. Very good balance between acidity and sweetness. Ok tannin. A little bit short in the finish, but nevertheless an excellent wine. Ready now, but certainly a future of 2 - 4+ years.

Beautiful bouquet with some pleasant barnyard, laurel and black cherries. On the palate cassis, chocolate and again cherries and laurel. Some spiciness as well. Ripe tannin, some pleasant sweetness and ok bitters. A mouth full. Good concentration. Still youthful and already a great pleasure. No problem storing this for another 5+ years.

Flight 5 (2 Notes)

  • 1994 Laurel Glen Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Sonoma Mountain 89 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Mountain

Beautiful bouquet. Elegant and impressions of e.g. figs, black fruits and pepper. On the palate this bottle is starting to show tertiary flavors. There is a firm amount of acidity and also some sweetness. It might be wisest to finish this wine within the next 1 - 2 years.

  • 2001 Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon Trailside Vineyard 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford

Expressive bouquet; smoky, eucalyptus, blue berries, fennel and spiced biscuits. On the palate black fruits, good acidity, bitterness and tannin. Full bodied. The bouquet is ready, but I think the wine might improve even a bit over the next 1 - 2 years.
