Tasted blind. Aired in decanter for about an hour plus before tasting. Drank over 2 hours. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of blackcurrant berries, ripe blackberries, black cherries, earth, chocolate, tobacco. Graphite and slight herbs with more air. Developed. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (13%), integrated high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackcurrant, ripe blackberries, black cherries, chocolate, earth, tobacco. Long finish. Very good quality. Somehow this was quite ripe at the start of the tasting, it even had us guessing an aged Napa Cab. With more air, the graphite and herbs revealed it's Bordeaux Left Bank character. Drinking well now. Drink up over the next 5+ years.
Tasted blind. Pop and poured. Drank over 2 hours. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of tobacco, cigar, earth, blackberries, blackcurrant, chocolate. Developed. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.3%), soft plush medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackcurrant, blackberries, dark chocolate, earth, tobacco, cigar. Long finish. This felt like a ripe Bordeaux! Very good quality. Drinking at peak now. Unlikely to improve with further ageing. I think this is probably only 75+% Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and Malbec softening it up.
Slow-oxed in bottle for about 30 minutes before drinking. Appearance is clar, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of black licorice, sweet earth, slight smoke. Developed. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol (15%), medium+ tannins, full body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherries, black licorice, sweet earth, smoke, bitter herbs towards the finish. Long finish. Something disjointed about this wine. Lacks focus on the palate, with the flavours waxing and waning over time. Probably and over-ripe and over-manipulated wine that is not withstanding the passage of time. Drink up. Most Crozes-Hermitage should not taste like that.
