  • NV J. Lassalle Champagne Premier Cru Brut Reserve Cachet Or 90 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

    Lemon-yellow color; nose is fresh, lemon, slight minerals, orange oil; palate is light bodied, high acid, super-fresh but also has a richness and roundedness to it which is easy to drink, a decent dosage which makes it just a hint off-dry but balanced superbly by acidity; finish is medium. Superb value. 90-91
    8 hours later: really hasn't changed much. Still wonderful to drink.

  • 2002 André Beaufort Champagne Grand Cru Brut Nature Millésime 90 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

    Light golden color; nose is aromatic, oxidative but not over the top, brioche, almost caramel; palate is rich, full bodied, medium-plus alcohol, fruit is fading a bit; finish is short-medium. This is unique and I love the style, and this bottle is a step up from my last a week ago, but there are some slight limits: the length on the palate and the loss of a bit too much fruit. Very nice though. 90-91

    Light golden; nose is aromatic, slight petrol; palate is dry, some minerals, faded quickly; finish is short-medium. Nice, but not worth the price which is common with the GGs that I've tried. 88-89

    Light golden, deep yellow; nose is moderately aromatic with minerals, fresh; palate is light, very high almost searing acidity, can't pick out much fruit: mostly a bit of lime, faded quickly; finish is short-medium. Nice, but a tad simple for me in this style. 86-88

    Yellow-golden color; nose is very minerally, significant salinity and oysters; palate is light bodied, medium-plus acidity, low alcohol, slight bitterness; medium finish. For such a mass-produced wine this is actually very solid. 88-89
    Faded quite quickly in the glass. 87-88

  • 2014 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon Les Grézeaux 90 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon

    Ruby-purple; nose is aromatic, lots of ripe black fruit, plummy, slight stems, slight vegetal; palate is medium bodied, youthful but integrated tannin, medium acid, black fruit; medium finish. For the price the value is unbeatable. Has character, very nice, but not superlative. 90

    Deep golden; nose is oxidative with peach, saffron, slight menthol; palate is full bodied, low-medium acid, very medicinal; medium finish. Unique but a bit weird. I could see how this would be confused for musar blanc though. 87-88

  • NV Gruet Winery Brut Blanc de Noirs 81 Points

    Light golden; aromatics are minimal to medium, slight yeast; palate has a bit too large bubbles, slight bitterness which is odd, fruit is minimal; short finish. They recently changed the vineyard to grapes sourced from California for their NV and it is a drastic step down from what used to be a very decent wine. 80-82
