Introduction

Another great dinner with the wine group, this time focusing on Sushi with Sake and Champagne. I didn't write notes on the sake, though both were very good and among the best sake I've tried. The champagne was excellent... my favorite was the elegant Prevost followed by the complex Lanson. The Jacquesson was a bit oxidized.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2000 Lanson Champagne Noble Cuvée de Lanson Brut 92 Points

    France, Champagne

Lemon-yellow, nice bead; nose is aromatic, particularly aromatic lemon, minerals, but also a nice density on the nose, slight brioche and toast; palate is light to medium bodied, nice combination of density/richness with lemon-lime minerality, high acidity, mouthwatering; medium finish. Overall excellent style that gives me both complexity and freshness, and it lacks just a bit more persistence on the finish. This is excellent with years ahead. 92+

  • 2012 Jérôme Prévost Champagne La Closerie Extra Brut Les Beguines 93 Points

    France, Champagne

2012 vintage. Light golden color; nose is almost savory with almost some spice, bready, some lemon; palate is fresh, good medium bodied density, again some spice and savory; long finish. This is very unique, well balanced and definitely not like anything I've tried before. 93-94

  • 2002 Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Brut Millésimé 88 Points

    France, Champagne

Golden color; nose is somewhat oxidative, almost caramel; palate is rich, slightly oxidative; limited finish. Seems advanced. 88
