Cheese, oats, barley and straw, there is a light oxidative note but it is very restrained on the nose, while showing a bit more in the texture of the palate. Has some rounded edges but the acid pushes things through nicely.
Ripe nose of pineapple, pear, peach and some apricot that could be botrytis. Very weighty on the palate, there is good acid but the boldness is a bit much for me to enjoy this more. Good but probably not up to expectations for me.
Hints at kerosene, plus lime, slate and apple. Medium weight, good acidity. This is starting to come into its own, while still having potential to improve over the next 5-10 years.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Nutty, ripe peach, orange peel and a little caramel note. The palate is a little bit too rounded for my taste, and while this isn't oxidized, it does feel a bit advanced. Still good to drink which is why I'm rating it, but not surprised if other bottles are better.
Pear, smoke, lemon and popcorn kernels. Good texture and length, the fruit has power which is needed as it keeps up with the oak.The balance actually ends up being right on track, and as long as the fruit doesn't drop away quickly, this could do with some shorter term aging.
Mandarin, iodine, sea spray and some old oak. Touch medicinal on the palate, otherwise it is quite sound. A lick of sweetness and the fruit maybe falls away a touch earlier than it would have in its youth. I don't mind it, but time to drink.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru
Blind. Leaf, spice, sappy, red fruits and stemmy notes. The fruit is quite bright and while the sappiness gives it a feeling of leaness, the balance feels right for this style. Good length.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Blind. Very perfumed with strawberry, cherry, rhubarb and redcurrant, with five spice and musk in the background. Continued to lift and improve in the glass. Very good texture on the palate, there is bright fruit and the acidity feels spot on. Really impressive.
Truffle and earth, some meatiness and old wood. There is some sweet fruit that remains on the palate, there is still some structure and while this is holding onto life, it is time to drink these I'm sure.
Chocolate, graphite, cassis, cedar and some green capsicum. Lovely acidity and the flow is fantastic, with texture and depth. Really feels like this is at its peak now. If it had a little more intensity I think I'd love it even more, but it is still wonderful as it is.
Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
Mint and tobacco, ash and blackcurrant. Consistent with previous bottles, there is still good fruit on the palate and this is developing at a slow pace.
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Redcurrant, cherry, spice and earth, with some quite perfumed floral aromatics. Lovely structure and the tannin and acid interplay is just right. Has plenty of fruit but it is contained within such a good structural framework that it feels spot on.
Cranberry, lifted violets, oak, plum and raspberries. There is richness on the palate, but the texture still shines through. Good length and while the fruit is bold, it has character and depth. A class act.
Peach, marmalade, mango, pistachio and lemongrass. Sweetness shows upfront on the palate, there is good length and while the wine could have been a bit colder, it still showed very well.
"Coeur de tries" bottling. Ginger snaps, spice, plenty of botrytis, apricot and pear. Spice shows throughout the palate, there is good length and a really nice fruit purity to it. Drink now and over the next 5 years.
Cherry, redcurrant, cinnamon, marmalade and earthy ground coffee. Interest comes from its difference rather than complex characters. Lots of intense fruit.
