Introduction

We get 10 wines in 10 glasses. All wines of a different varietal or blend and from a different location. We have to tell in approx 1 hour where the wine is produced and of which varietal or traditional blend, the vintage and as many details as we can give. For big ego’s this is the ultimate way to land with both feet on the ground and become humble again ;-) ;-)!

For me it was not blind this time.
Wine 4 was corked, so I replaced it with another wine from the same area.

In the bouquet raspberry, red cherries, rose hips and lemonade. On the palate candy and the same primary fruits as in the bouquet. Good and fresh acidity and slightly sticky tannin. Ok wine.

  • 1999 Château Les Ormes de Pez 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

Mature bouquet with earth, mushrooms, dark berries and some rustic flavors. On the palate a mature wine as well. Still some red and dark berries and bell pepper but also forest floor and mushrooms. The acidy and tannin are still in good condition. Beautiful and classical wine. Ready now. No real hurry; but don’t wait too long.

  • 2013 Familia Zuccardi Malbec Serie A 86 Points

    Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco

In the bouquet dark and ripe cherries. On the palate firm dark cherries, firm acidity and sticky tannin. Overall a firm straight forward wine, definitely more than just ok, but without real finesse. 86 is a proper score for now. Possibly 87 in a year or two.

  • 2008 Mullineux Syrah 88 Points

  • 2012 Domaine Saint-Damien Gigondas Les Souteyrades 90 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas

Fairly transparent color. In the clean bouquet ripe red and dark berries and cherries as well as pleasant garrigue. On the palate round and supple with red and dark berries, herbs, some licorice, garrigue, good and fresh acidity and lightly sticky tannin. Still a bit too young. Give the wine a few years of cellaring. Around 2020…? 90+ for tonight.
