Introduction

Bob's daughter Marilyn was in town with her boyfriend Richard, so we headed out for another spectacular meal at Lampreia.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

Marilyn and Richard are self-proclaimed fans of California Chardonnay, so I reached for an ever faithful bottle of Kistler.

  • 2000 Kistler Chardonnay Dutton Ranch 92 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Hazelnut, a hint of custard, a hint of leesy notes. A spicy and deep palate with lush mouthfeel, some butter-brickle. Some hints of citrus and nice acidity coming out on the finish. Wowza, this is really exploding with stunning balance, lemon custard, acid, spice, and viscosity. Gorgeous, the best showing yet.

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

As the heavier courses arrived, we moved to a delicious Loring Pinot followed by the surprisingly lush and approachable DeLille Harrison Hill.

  • 2001 Loring Wine Company Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Vineyard 90 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills

Started as cherry cola but quickly exploded to show brighter cherry notes, cinnamon, and spice. Very vibrant mouthfeel, drinking well, fun, bouncy, and exuberant with some nice underlying Pinot character.

  • 2000 DeLille Cellars Harrison Hill 91 Points

USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley

Alluring, feminine, and soft. Some notes of olive, gently spicy oak, asian five spice, cassis, some more herbal Cabernet Franc poking out, and a hint of dark chocolate. The palate is very soft with a simply sexy mouthfeel. Bare sweetness and very nice acidity on the finish. This is very vibrant, gaining a lot of depth and intrigue, getting darker, showing bitter chocolate with air. With air the structure starts to wake up quite a bit, but this was still surprisingly approachable. In fact, I thought this would show much more structure. If you are sitting on a lot of these, I would pop one with conducive food.
