Flight 1 - Champagne to Start (1 Note)

Served with Chris' amazing trio of tastes, including a Tropea onion soup, a bite+ of foie mousse and goosefoot's great egg. A great course.

Flight 2 - Ramonet 2005 Single Blind (3 Notes)

  • 2005 Domaine Ramonet Chevalier-Montrachet 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

Served single blind in 2005 flight, this seemed leaner than the others and slightly less ripe or spiced, so I thought it the Chevalier. Lemon custard and Meyer lemon. Lots of fruit to start, seemingly backward in the middle, then lean and minerally finish. very good now with upside from here.

  • 2005 Domaine Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

Sinlge blind in 2005 flight, this was fat, lush, forward and very fun. Well supported by acidity and minerality, but more forward and fruit-driven than the Chevalier. Very good now, and easily for another 5+ years. I'm generally not a 2005 white fan, but Ramonet's have consistently been fresh and great.

  • 2005 Domaine Ramonet Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Flawed

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

Slightly corked. so sad because there was excellent underlying material, fresh and powerful.

Flight 3 - 2007 Echezeaux (2 Notes)

  • 2007 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Echezeaux 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru

Served alongside Liger-Belair 2007 Echezeaux. Charming floral start. Lots of red fruit with good concentration, once again showing more maturity than I would expect. Stems are slightly too overt here. This had been open 3 hours before serving with a quick double decant. Next time I might give it less air.

  • 2007 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Echezeaux 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru

Served alongside DRC 2007 Echezeaux, and I preferred this Liger-Belair. Enticing combination of floral, spice and red cherry aromas with berry hints. Very good concentration and overall balance with good length. Not quite in its peak drinking window yet. Open less than an hour before serving.

Flight 4 - 2008 Echezeaux (2 Notes)

Flight 5 - DRC 2005 and 2006 (2 Notes)

  • 2005 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Echezeaux 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru

Served alongside the 2005 single blind. Easy to tell which was which. Open and decanted 2 hours before serving. Dark, powerful but brooding. Good material and potential here. This wine has been more forward and accessible before, but think it's now time for a long snooze in the cellar.

  • 2006 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Echezeaux 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru

Served alongside the 2005 single blind. Easy to tell which was which. Open 4 hours before serving with a quick double decant. Great spice and bright, ripe red and black cherry. Powerful and incredibly fun, with enough structure in the near background. Easily more enjoyable vs the 2005, which might become a better wine in another decade.
