I had to cancel the 7 deadly Zins tasting because of other commitments (I was due to host but I had to move flat/apartment/unit) but caught up with the wine-ark guys for a reasonably random tasting at Dave's
And that was that. I strolled to the station afterwards and somehow managed to get home on the train without falling asleep which was a bonus.
Of the wines I always enjoy the Senejac and I thought the gigondas was fun. the rioja was a little disappointing for me though. and the pinot gris slotted nicely into the 'interesting' category...
2008 Tapanappa Chardonnay Tiers
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Piccadilly Valley
Spice, butter, slight peach and vanilla on the nose…more sweet peach on the palate backed by cream and butter. A bit overdone and, for me, lacking a little acidity to freshen the palate

2005 Cave de Turckheim Pinot Gris
France, Alsace
Rich and dense with sweet melon fruit. It smells like it will be broad on the palate (eh?) and is very slightly oxidised. In the mouth it is bone dry but it feels like it has a touch of residual sugar to soften the acidity a little. Interesting

2008 Jean Bourdy Chardonnay Côtes du Jura
France, Jura, Côtes du Jura
muted sweet spice on the nose. Quite subtle and light on the palate with plentiful slightly unripe citrus flavours. Perhaps a little short.

2012 Domaine de Montvac Gigondas Adage
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas
Perfumed sweet red berry; feels like whole bunch but probably isn't'. Rather surprising the sweetness is on the palate as well. Lacks acidity and shows some alcohol heat but it is still quite pleasant in its own fashion

2013 Matteo Correggia Roero
Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Roero
Plummy and meaty on the nose backed by some dried herbs. In the mouth it's quite rich with firm but contained tannins and the plums are more savoury. I also pick up a bit of yeast/meat extract.

2005 Torbreck Shiraz The Struie
Australia, South Australia, Barossa
meaty, blackberry and spice with touches of leather and charcuterie. A bit like a sweet pepper gravy on the palate. Full and dense with sweet blackberry and firm tannins. It's all there but I'm not convinced.

1995 Bodegas y Viñedos del Contino Rioja Contino Reserva
Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alavesa, Rioja
tending to balsamic, red berries, leather, sweet spice and still with a perfumed top note. Meaty. It's juicy with sweet spice and muted berry. Hmm.

2009 Château Sénéjac
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
Meat, blackcurrant tending to cassis with dusty undertones. In the mouth it's juicy with blackcurrant and subtle but dense tannins. Nice.
