Introduction

A few bottles shared amongst friends during Sunday afternoon dim sum at Minghin in Naperville. The wines showed beautifully and the dim sum was fantastic- we're very happy to have been introduced to this place by M&J...much closer than heading into Chicago's Chinatown.

  • 2000 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

Courtesy of M&J. Shows a little age in the color but remains bright on the nose and palate. Notes of strawberry, cherry and Christmas spices with a wonderful earthy overtone. Fully resolved palate with flavors of cherry, forest floor and spice with a nice finish. Silky texture with plenty of fruit and acidity. Delightful, and fun to taste alongside the much younger Bouchard.

  • 2010 Château Mouton Rothschild Aile D'Argent Blanc 89 Points

    France, Bordeaux

From memory/no formal note. Plenty of soft white fruit with a subtle underlying grassy/earthy quality. It's just a tad bit rich and fat- I'd like the acidity to be just a little brighter here. Still, it paired nicely with a nice array of the items ordered.

  • NV Christophe Mignon Champagne Brut Nature 92 Points

    France, Champagne

Courtesy of J&P. Green apple and almond with a subtle earthy undertone. Not as funky as some 100% Pinot Meunier champagnes can be. Crisp and racy, bright acidity with plenty of fruit on the palate. While Domino loves zero dosage, I usually prefer at least a little dosage so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. 91-93 pts.

  • 2001 Lucien Albrecht Riesling Pfingstberg 94 Points

    France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru

From memory/no formal note. Courtesy of M&J. Flat out gorgeous. Stone fruit, mineral and honeysuckle aromas. Rich and unctuous, yet quite lively at the smae time, with flavors of stone fruit and mineral that linger on the finish. I could smell this wine all day. Paired exceptionally well with just about everything on the table. Fully mature and should hold at this level for a couple of year, if not longer, but why wait? 94-95 pts.

USA, California, Sonoma County, Green Valley of Russian River Valley

From memory/no formal note. Courtesy of P&L. Cherry, rhubarb and cranberry notes. Ripe cherry fruit on the palate with hints of spice underneath. Paired wonderfully with the barbecue pork buns.
