Introduction

As I am not really an expert on wines from the new world, I will not rate them by points. Only do give my honest opinion in sometimes brief TN and impressions of this afternoon.

These bottles are mostly (too) young and will improve by further cellaring.

Flight 1 - New World Whites (4 Notes)

  • 2015 689 Cellars Six Eight Nine White

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

Spicy in the nose and on the palate, some yellow flowers, the flavours reminds me of an european Gewürztraminer, fullbodied, lacking elegance, **(+)

  • 2014 Robert Mondavi Winery Fumé Blanc

    USA, California, Napa Valley

starting with flavours of wet grass, very fresh therefore on the green side of white wine, granny smith apples, lacking some finesse but rather fullbodied, ending long, for the next 3-5 years? too expensive in Europe for what it is (20€)

  • 2012 Robert Mondavi Winery Fumé Blanc

    USA, California, Napa Valley

this vintage is showing more fruit, the typical gooseberry of the leading SB, good fresh mouthfeel, with some matury more balanced with fresh saline notes, ending long and tasty, still a bit onedimensional, for the next 3+ years, because of its too high price (20€) uninteresting to buy, **+

  • 2015 Clos Henri Sauvignon Blanc

    New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

A SB wine from NZ, very fresh appearance, energetic, mineralic stone licking, flintstones, well structured and dense, too young though, ending long and tasty, give it some 2-3+ years*(**+)

Flight 2 - New World Reds (9 Notes)

  • 2015 Orin Swift Abstract

    USA, California

What a winebody! starting with warm overripe aromatic flavours, extremly dense body, high ABV 16%, velvety texture of roasty aromas and overripe black cooked fruit, for me too much of everything, how will thisone mature?, (**-?)

  • 2012 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino

    Argentina, Mendoza

A wow- wine, the high end Malbec of this estate, I do like the aromas of the best argentinian Malbecs, and this one is among the very best, still very young, but showing some hints of the complexity this wine will reach in 5- 10 years, enormous persistence, all components only indicated but silky and delicious, ending very long and spicy, *(***+)

  • 2007 Bodega O. Fournier Alfa Crux Blend

    Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco

This one is dominated by aromas of the Tempranillo in the nose, fine textured on the midpalate, elegant with some depth, showing herbs and red fruit, ending tasty and long, **(*+),

  • 2013 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Catena Alta Historic Rows

    Argentina, Mendoza

On the nose some violets, roasty aromas but only in the background, ripe dark fruit with a herbal touch, starting with ripe and velvety tannin, well structured with delicious dark fruit, layered texture, ending long with integrated smooth tannin, delicious bottle, **(*+-?)

  • 2012 Errazuriz Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve

    Chile, Aconcagua Valley

Very dark coloured wine, concentrated dark fruit nose, velvety texture, not a superconcentrated fruit-bomb, lots of finesse, layered with mineral hints, ending smooth and long with supporting ripe tannin, impressive bottle, **(*+- ?)

  • 2013 Pirramimma Petit Verdot Ironstone

Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale

Another wow-wine, do not know if this one is really from 100% Petit Verdot, enormously spicy, energetic black fruit appearance, integrated ripe tannin, herb garden, tasty finesse, creamy swallowing, showing great depth and concentration with a long finish, for the long run, *(***-?)

  • 2013 Schubert Pinot Noir Block B

    New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa

A lot of herbs on the nose, silky texture showing a lot of aromas from the oak, smooth tannin but for me too concentrated, tasty cooked black fruit, coffee, mocha, 15,5% ABV, fat voluptuous body, lacking elegance, ending long, but this is a style of PN not made for me, (**-***?)

  • 2014 Sons of Eden Shiraz Romulus

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

Very spicy in the foreground, showing vanilla, mocha and roasted toast, herbs like a Rhone- wine, very young dense structure, on the palate warm and ripe fruit showing, complex, ending long with mineralic hints, give this one 3+ years, *(**+)

  • 2015 Lammershoek Terravinum Reserve

    South Africa, Coastal Region, Swartland

maybe unevolved, but showing only hints of anything, some red fruit, no great depth, quite short though, disturbing bottle, (*-**?)
