Introduction

A big thanks to Mike Dombrow for arranging this tasting. This was a real treat to drink all these Clos Rougeard's. I'm not sure how many more I'll get to try in my lifetime.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2009 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny 92 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

    These wines were poured into glass a few hours before the tasting.
    Dill, barnyard on the nose. The palate is pepper, tannin, almost funk, good spice.

  • 2010 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny 92 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

    These wines were poured into glass a few hours before the tasting.
    The nose is ash, green bell pepper and a little barnyard. There is coffee and chocolate. The palate is rich and ripe, quite complex. Blueberry and red fruit.

  • 2011 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny 90 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

    These wines were poured into glass a few hours before the tasting.
    The palate is lively with dill. There is a wet leaves aspect. The palate is bright red with lots of acid. This is even more vegetal than the others, and slightly thin.
