A little pop and some spritz upon opening. Bright, light straw. Bright and relatively inconsequential on the palate. Refreshing, relatively simple. Somewhat put in the shade by the Quartz and a Tissot Les Amants. Bare ***

Full straw. Rich chard nose, complex with a sense of minerality. Fairly viscous on the attack, rich but with some mineral bite. Again, lots here and keeps showing slightly different angles in the glass. Richer and fuller, and a little less energy than the Quartz, but just as good. ****

Similar pale straw colour that the Schiste showed. Far more here though. There's a richness and depth to the really quite complex nose. A touch of gras on the attack with plenty of bite and complexity. Lots here. Energetic. Well worth the money, not just cf the Schiste. Super. ****

Finely chiselled core here, taut and toned and starting to show some open development and florality across the statuesque core. Silky dark red fruit and some complexity here. Plenty of life in this - just starting to relax and show it's personality without letting anything go. Lovely. ****

Double decanted three hours. Dark garnet. Some tarry florality. A little more pulled in and lithe than the slightly fuller and more burly Cannubi B. Again, complex and long. Maybe just a touch of heat on the finish. Again, fine now, but years in hand. ****

Double decanted three hours. Similar dense garnet. Nose too, though maybe a little more floral here and a touch less tar. Slightly more lithe on the palate with a nicely dark red fruit and mineral core. Similarly long. It's a stylistic preference between the two. ****

Half. A coppery bronze colour, a little more developed than previous halves. Very sweet, but balanced by effortless acidity. Very complete. Flavours in the orange water and barley sugar spectrum. Lacks just a shade of freshness and drive cf previous bottles of this. ****1/2

Disgorged 01/02/2005. Cork extremely tight in the bottle. Full old gold. Some fizz still but only lingers briefly visually, though it retains a finely creamy mousse for the 30mins it's open. Lovely rich, spicy nose, lots of ginger within an oxidative but far from oxidised frame. Surprising energy on the mid paste. Complex and refreshing with real interest. Really good. ****1/2
