Introduction

Finding a restaurant on Easter sunday prooved to be more difficult than i thought. But thanks to the list that is avaliable on this board i was able to find this tratoria. The food was very good and the service was excellent. Not only did they provide us with as many glasses (spieglau but the cheeper ones - nevertheless good) they also brought us a free cheese plate and deserts. (enough that we did not order any)

Players

  • 1994 Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Heimbourg Vendange Tardive 95 Points

    France, Alsace

Flowers, lichi, but light - not cloying nose. You can sit and sniff this all night. on the pallate is was thick - almoust BA thickness and still sweet (aus) but the acidity kept is fresh and not cloying. This is a WOW wine and i am keeping the second bottle for a bit longer. A tiny bit of bitterness on the finish didnt let this wine become "perfect"

  • 1995 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

I thought this was Barbaresco. It had a lot of earthiness on the nose and mushrooms as well. Light and really smooth with lots of acidity. A bit of green streak that took away from the full pleasure. Didnt get the cherries untill later (it did fill-out a bit with time). To me this was the #2 red of the night - smooth and light. But thats just my preference :)

  • 1999 Majella The Malleea 90 Points

Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra

lots of american oak on the nose, vanilla/popcorn. the palate follows the nose, with addition of red berries and Eucaliptus in time. Again - imressivly this is not over the top. it manages to stay elegant and medium-bodied wine.

  • 1999 Spring Mountain Vineyard Reserve 90 Points

USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District

Rich, oaky, almoust sweet on the nose. Velvety palatte full of red fruits. Manages to keep its balance and elegance and not go over-the-top. With time it developed almoust australian eucaliptus notes (simmilar to the Aussie at the table..)

  • 1990 Château Angélus 94 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

WOW... the nose is full of grafite and red berries. Palate is velvety, smooth, fully resolved and mature. this wine shows a lot of muscle but together with elegance and balance. this is delicious.
