Introduction

Dinner with a few guys in my Chicago Burg group, featuring mostly mid-aged Meursault Perrieres from some of my favorite producers. Alas, no Coche-Dury or Roulot.

Flight 1 - Pierre Morey Vertical (4 Notes)

  • 1989 Pierre Morey Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

In 89/99/00/02 vertical. Rich and concentrated stone fruit with nuanced apple, toasted hazelnut and savory spice hints. Very rich while also well balanced with a mineral-driven finish. Kept unfolding and changing in glass, without deteriorating at all for 2 hours. Best bottle I've had of this wine in a decade. Alas, my last bottle.

  • 1999 Pierre Morey Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières Flawed

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

In 89/99/00/02 vertical. An odd wine. Certainly not past its peak, but there was an unpleasant note I thought Volatile Acidity, giving a whiff of nail polish remover. Never really got past that over several hours.

  • 2000 Pierre Morey Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

In 89/99/00/02 vertical. Started out lush and powerful with plenty of apple and pear aromas and flavors. Softened and shortened with more air. Best when popped-and-poured. Very good, but time to drink up.

  • 2002 Pierre Morey Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

In 89/99/00/02 vertical. Started off seemingly advanced and musty, but this freshened up quickly and kept getting more bright and powerful. Lots of yellow and green apple with hazelnut and lemon peel notes. Lots of structure with a long finish, showing lots of mineral textures throughout. Kept expanding over at least two hours.

Flight 2 - Comtes Lafon Vertical (3 Notes)

Flight 3 - Vincent Dancer Vertical (3 Notes)

Flight 4 - 2004 Horizontal (3 Notes)

  • 2004 Henri Boillot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Served in 2004 horizontal. Cork seemed imperfect with considerable mold under the capsule. Wine came across slightly musty to start, but overall age appropriate. Plenty of apple with vanilla and sweet spice notes. Good+ concentration, good length.

  • 2004 Lucien Le Moine Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Tasted in 2004 horizontal. Ripe stone fruit with spice and white pepper. Good concentration with an intriguing combination of ripe and less ripe fruit. Very good length. My favorite of the flight. Better than another bottle from the same case opened last year. Still best to enjoy over then next few years.
