  • 2009 Château Léoville Barton 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Broken cork. Deep red/garnet. Open nose, cassis, cedar, spices, well balanced within a grand structure. Some meaty and savoury notes underlying, medium/full bodied, rich flavours, moderate alcohol warm, adequate acidity, m++ length, upfront and elegant under solid strength. A classic Bordeaux!
Started fading after 2 hours in decanter, should last longer under its classe and the great vintage, the broken cork seems to hint something wrong with cellar condition. However, it kept nice balance all through even while fading, so charming.

  • 2013 Te Motu Kokoro 94 Points

New Zealand, North Island, Auckland, Waiheke Island

    50% Merlot, 35% CS, 10% Malbec and 5% Syrah

dark red/purple. blackcurrant, black doris, some green pepper, rich and vibrant flavours, intense spices, supple tannins, fine grained. medium finish, cedar and sweet herbals. good concentration and balance.

a well structured red wine from Waiheke Island, young and energetic, enjoyable now, also having good potential in cellar. however, there is a little bit more green notes, not matching the greatest vintage 2013, should be perfectly ripe.
