Smoke, black fruits, slight green, slight brett and a bit of funk; palate is full bodied, integrated tannins, black fruit which is fading; medium finish. Good but fading fruit, past peak and starting to fade. 89-90-
Golden-orange; spice, plenty of botrytis, aromatic, dried apricot, slight honey; palate is full bodied, slight minerality, medium sweetness, medium acidity, palate is on the simpler side but balanced and enjoyable; short medium finish. Good sauternes, probably the best vintage of Chateau de Malle, but plenty of better options for the vintage. 86-87 Day 2: Well integrated, still lovely spice on the nose; palate is balanced, sweet but not overly so, good medium acidity; medium length finish. By itself it holds up very well, seems like it is at peak but will last 5 more years. Much better on its own than it showed during my 2001 Sauternes horizontal. 87
Light ruby color; really lovely spice throughout, intensely aromatic nose; light bodied, fresh acidity, plenty of red fruit throughout but never heavy or ripe, just enjoyable and balanced. Really lovely Pinot, wonderful quality and especially good for the price. Easily beats most California Pinot at twice the price. 90-91
