Another wonderful showing... so much stone, saline, citrus, rainwater and chalk. So much lip-pursing acidity... Not sure how long this will live, but I would not be afraid to continue to cellar this... although it's delicious now. UPDATE: On day two, I was better able to look at the color, which seemed a bit darker than I remember. The flavors seemed a bit more evolved and dried out. Perhaps not one to hold for the long term?
This one took a while to warm up to for me. At first this showed a bit of volatile acidity... not too off-putting, but noticeable. This eventually blew off and cleaned up quite a bit to reveal a lovely, elegant, light and velvety wine. Probably at peak.
One of the most silky, elegant and feminine wines of the night. Drinking great right now, with lovely old-world character married with new world fruit. Cedar, dried red fruits, herbs and earth. Complex, layered and long. A joy to drink.
A testament to how great the 1992 vintage was and how great Montelena can be. This still has a way to go, with dense, rich blackberry and cassis fruit. Still quite structured, but the tannins are fine-grained and of the "melt-in-your-mouth" variety. Utterly delicious with so much "palate-adhesion". If I had any, I would continue to hold.
A phenomenal wine with loads of fruit, structure, complexity, density and length. The nose isn't as giving as the regular Cab tasted next to it, but this has so much future promise and will easily eclipse its brethren.
A bruiser of a wine. So youthful, vibrant and packed with black fruit, licorice, leather and spice. This was double decanted two hours before dinner and it was still holding a lot in reserve. A superb wine that will amply reward cellaring for another decade or two.
Very nice, aromatic, mature, refined and drinking great. It was interesting to try this next to the 1994 Maya. Lovely cassis, herbs, earth and tobacco. While this was more open and accessible, the Maya was denser more structured and will be a MUCH better wine in 10 years (at least).

This seemed a little flat and tired. I suspect a bit of oxidation here. Defective bottle, for sure.

Bright, lively, crisp, chalky and full of bouncy citrus fruit. Really wakes up the palate. So much clarity and purity here... fabulous stuff.
