Big red berry projection on the nose. Very warm and ripe. Super juicy. The most open nose of the first flight by a lot. On the palate however this is hot and out of balance. Big wood tones, but a lot of fruit. Smells far better than it drinks.
Nose is somewhat closed and astringent. Red cherry. Palate is similarly astringent right now but shows good structure. Not showy right now, but potential to blossom. Even if this is technically more sound, I preferred the '03 tonight, and certainly the '00.
Warm and ripe nose that is open and showy, but restrained in a way that the ‘03 is not and pretty right now in a way the ‘01 is not. Nice perfume. On the palate there is intense red berry juice with good tannic structure and great balance. Very well built, and pleasurable now, but obviously best results to come.
Classic Latour: red cedar, damp leather, and some cigar box spice, but above serious brawny red fruit. Forest floor and smoke. Dense red and black fruit on the palate. Gravelly and expansive mouthfeel. Good balance and structure. Consistently great. Wet stone. Always love this. Layers of texture and nuance, but so drinkable and doesn't play hard to get.
Nice nose with secondary red fruit aromas, but muted relative to the ‘96 in the next glass. Still smells like classic Latour, just a touch quieter. Lovely palate that has red and black berry fruit. Tannins are dryer than those on the ‘96. Nice blackberry.
Serious volatile acid and high pitched red berry. Asparagus and broccoli. Coaxing yields some some saddle leather and damp earth, but mostly this is really strange. Acidic and thin palate. Not good. I have had shockingly good 1994 Bordeauxs before, namely Mouton, and this is squarely not one.
A slightly quieter nose on this than I recall from past bottles. Still very nice with damp earth and and bold minerality over robust red and blue fruit. Nevermind, this bouquet is blossoming beautifully and has classic Latour terroir-laden fruit. Palate is lush and delicious. Big and rich but totally approachable and pleasurable. Opulent. My notes seem to be all over the place on this wine. This bottle is maybe just a click short of 95, but it is in the middle of a massive vertical..
Opulent and round nose. Warm with developed red fruit forward. Palate has big red fruit flavors but isn’t actually as lush or as long as the ‘90 in the next glass. A few gears behind the ‘90 and expected this to be very comparable. I seem to really enjoy '89 red bordeaux, but this wasn't particularly impressive, especially in the context of the vertical.
The nose here is surprising in that is is soft and elegant for Bordeaux, let alone Latour. Sweeter red berry fruit, strawberry. Highly nuanced with nice smoke and dry leather notes. Soft red berry and strawberry palate. Nice and mature.
Oxidative nose unfortunately. Some bold red fruit hanging on. Palate is sweet and has given in to oxidation as well. Fluctuating up and down. A little smoky. Actually, coming back to this glass seems to be softening and opening up... Came back to this at the very end of the night and it had livened up considerably. Maybe a better bottle of this could be really great?
Cigar box and dark tobacco. Brooding relative to the ‘59. Palate is excellent with a developed mouthful of secondary red and black berry fruits. Tannic structure is still present in a big way. Always impressed with how robust this wine is. Consistently a hedonistic and towering piece of work.
Red cedar, spice, cigar ash, smoked meat, dry leather, cranberry and red berry fruit. Highly expressive and nuanced. The nose on this is vastly superior to the ‘61 tonight. Palate is gorgeous with a developed and secondary array of red and black fruit, great damp earth, and a degree greater complexity than that on the ‘61. Bouldery minerality. Forest floor. Unpopular opinion, but the ‘59 is my favorite over ‘61 and even ‘45 tonight. The finish is strong and persistent.
A flicker of oxidation in the bouquet, but still a highly intricate and expressive showing of fall leaves, smoked meats, rustic earth, and savory red berry fruit. Spicy tobaccos and black teas. A mild and beautiful layer of scorched earth. Palate is in terrific shape, there is still tannic structure and the fruit is both sweet and savory, tertiary and delicious. Impressive drinking...
Fantastic nose, reminiscent of the ‘90 in terms of opulence and projection in of the glass. Leathers, bold minerality, and damp earth influenced red fruit. Great bouquet, bold and striking. A distinct spice here as well. Palate is still big and isn’t as round and pleasurable as the sensational nose suggests, but is still great. Sometimes '82s don't live up to the hype, but this was fantastic and is a bottle I'd really like to have more of.

Bit of a cork debate here, some saying just VA... Certainly off. Some redeeming red cedar fruit on the palate, but still flawed.
