  • 2004 Rene Rostaing Côte-Rôtie Côte Blonde

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

Md/dp garnet, pale garnet rim. Nose is quite mature, deep, meaty. Medium/full bodied, bacon, dark fruit, soil, rich, not particularly long and perhaps a touch rustic but enjoyable nonetheless. ***1/2

  • 2004 Clusel-Roch Côte-Rôtie Les Grandes Places

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

Slightly subdued at first, then floral, with pure underlying dark fruit. Medium bodied, leish but attractively so, elegant, pure dark fruit, retains its floral character on the palate, vibrant acidity with fine but still perceptible tannin, good length finish. Excellent, classic Cote-Rotie, still quite youthful. ****

  • 2001 Domaine Durand Cornas

Deep garnet core, narrow pale rim. Deep, dark fruit, lightly smoky. Medium/full, quite youthful dark fruit, mouth-filling, a touch restrained although tannins pretty much resolved. *** 1/2

Deep garnet, slightly cloudy. Lovely complex Northern Rhone nose, black olive, meat, underlying succulent blackcurrant fruit, floral top-note. Medium/full, lovely soft texture, complex dark fruit, meaty notes, vibrant acidity, juicy core of fruit still, long finish. Just lovely *****.
