Very dark plummy red. Sweetly smoky, with a nice subtle sweaty note and a frame of light oak. Dry but round, with very late tannin. Complete, truthful yet refined wine here, and what value!

Medium cherry red. Nose is fresh, bright and primary, which doesn't prepare you for the surprising fullness in the mouth. But this is low on flavor, and the end result is rather dull.

Dark violet. Dark but driving fruit and cool herbs hint at some real incipient complexity. Concentrated but refreshingly bright, with chewy tannin. Impressive!

Dark red violet. Minerally yet easygoing, even a bit soft on the nose. Some meaty complexity here, along with an extracted, masculine personality and gravelly tannin that is not too rough. Should improve.

Very dark and saturated red. A little tight, but there's earth, leather, and blackberry. Round entry; rich and full and low on acidity. But the fierce tannins still kick you on the way down.

Inky purple. Sweet oak spices and medicinality are heady in their intensity. Attacks with big structure and spice. Disjointed right now and begging for time (or EXTENSIVE aeration - see my note on the 2003), but the excellent length gives one hope that patience will be well rewarded.

Medium dark ruby. Flowery strawberry/raspberry fruit. Sweet and fruit-driven, although finally some herbs pop up as it develops. Doesn't speak much of Chateauneuf.

Medium dark ruby red. Rocks, leaves and juniper notes are just fine, but that's before the tongue-searing alcohol shows up. Candied finish.

Medium violet/salmon/red. Unusual nose of cigar, hot stones, and very sweet red berries. New World ripeness. Attention-grabbing but not my style.

Medium light garnet. Minerals, celery, and ripe mixed berries on a nose that is a bit restrained now. A lush yet bright middleweight.

Dark violet purple. Toast, minerals, and raspberries, followed by an extracted mouthfeel, slightly medicinal flavors, and sizeable tannins.

Medium dark violet red. The oak is already integrating well here, with subtle sweetness and baking spices; expressive but simultaneously serene. The palate is not yet ready, however, as it's grainy, gripping, and even more extracted than the Autard.

Medium light salmon. Tight and just giving up some cherry on the nose. But the flavors tell the story: herbs and pepper, dense fruit, outstanding persistence, and gravelly tannin. Should really be something when it peaks.

Dark purple. Sweet but still mineral, with a slightly high-toned blackberry liqueur character. Bright and structured; no great complexity but a nice effort in a modern vein.

Medium red violet. Brett rears its head for the first time in this tasting, but it doesn't overwhelm, allowing some ashtray and animale notes through. Elegant; bright but just lightly extracted.

Dark maroon. Sweet smokey barbecue, with sweet herbs (tarragon comes to mind) and a side of dill pickles. Large-scaled and palate-coating; this is chewy, meaty, spicy Cote-Rotie.

Medium dark red garnet. Warm pruney nose gets some lift from minerality. Surprising acidity furthers the impression of nicely restrained sweetness, with the alcohol unnoticeable. Pleasing.

A striking shampoo-like edge to the florality here. Extracted on entry, then sweet but vigorous, with a vegetal component. Interesting.

Marzipan notions precede restrained flavors that are light in weight but of decent persistence.
