Flight 1 (7 Notes)

  • NV Roses de Jeanne / Cédric Bouchard Champagne Blanc de Noirs Côte de Val Vilaine 91 Points

    France, Champagne

    91/100

Good, but far from being impressive. A decent Blanc de Noirs, offering bouquet with dominant pickled and bruised apples. Delicate and soft acidity, very gentle.

  • 2000 La Chablisienne Chablis Grand Cru Grenouilles Château Grenouilles 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

    89/100

A bottle of Chablis is a tad beyond peak, an old man barely standing. Hints of nuts and honey, evolved, with a bit of bread. Weak acidity though.

This co-op Grand Cru is okayish, I give it that, but that says it all. Falls short of expectations.

  • 2014 Renaud Bruyère & Adeline Houillon Chardonnay Arbois La Croix Rouge 89 Points

    France, Jura, Arbois

    88+/100

Aggressive raw wine that requires time. Acidic, likely no malo here, with pickles, brine, yeasts slowly giving way to complexity and depth.

This requires longer play time with the bottle, not a speedy glass at a hectic natural wines bar. I’m getting another bottle, and we’ll see. My guy says patience is required, and lots of it.

  • 2015 Renaud Bruyère & Adeline Houillon Ploussard Arbois Pupillin 94 Points

    France, Jura, Arbois Pupillin

    94/100

Thin and elegant, full of finesse, this is a top natural wine.

First, it comes at you with tons of fizz and sparkle, raw, unpolished, brutish, it needs to breathe and lighten up - but as it does, there’s hawthorn, lingonberry, rhubarb, elegance that goes beyond expectations.

Weightless and full of sly nuance. I’m loving it. Reminds me of Alice Bouvot’s lighthearted reds.

    12.5% abv

  • 2000 Gitton Père et Fils Sancerre Rouge Les Herses 92 Points

France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre Rouge

    91+/100

Thick and plump, a decent interesting red Sancerre, with strawberry jam, blueberries and a bit of paint. Good tannin despite 18 years. On a heavier side of Pinot.

  • 2016 Julien Altaber (Sextant) Pinot Noir Bourgogne 87 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

    87/100

A weakling. Me, I’ve always preferred white Sextant to a red one, white is Julien Altaber’s forte. Lots of stewed red berries, or maybe frozen and then reheated ones, spices and baked aubergine. Simple.

Красный Альтабер ожидаемо проще белого. Чуть варёных красных ягод, специи, печёный баклажан. Просто, сладко в носе, безыскусное совсем. Не мое.

  • 2005 Radikon Merlot 93 Points

    Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Collio

    93+/100

A friendly glass from BWFM’s somm Andrey Larin. Blind. The only thing were I was right was placing it in Italy.

Merlot is impossible to guess. Powerful tannin, great depth. I need to have that again - and I will, a bottle is waiting.

Интересно, молодо и невозможно угадать мерло. Сильный танин, глубокое вино. Надо пробовать ещё.
