Introduction

Doug, Reme - thanks so much for putting up with us and Zacky :) mostly with us!
it was a lovely weekend only made better by the amazing wines!

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 1999 Le Ragose Amarone della Valpolicella 92 Points

Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella

bought this at Astor a few years ago after we had it in Rome. This is the style i love in amarone - cinnamon, sweet ripe plums, rich mouthfeel, lovely undercurrent of acidity, some raspbery? just a touch of warmth on finish, leather, bitter-sweet notes, great tannins..YUM! would buy again even at ($45-50) which is myupper range.

  • 2005 Sojourn Pinot Noir Sangiacomo Vineyard 89 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

This needs a lot more time. sweaty, cough drop cherry notes, pepper, very CA Pinot. Middle is rich with milk chocolate, wood, lighter on its feet than expected. good components but perhaps too young to really be great now. some more herbal notes with time.

For all those who dont think zin changes with age - this is the wine to try.
sweet tobacco, rich red fruit on the nose with carmel, pine nuts and cardamom?
ripe but with acidity that makes this wine very fresh (at 17% alc!!!) herbs, red berries, just amazing effort. EXCELLENT
