Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2015 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis 1er Cru Montmains

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

Frt from 3.5 hectares in Butteaux, Forèts, & Montmains: ≈50% Butteaux, + approx = amts of Forêts & Montmains.

    N: Lemons, minerals, poss slate?

P: Med body; NICE frt met by a tangy, almost puckerish acidity which DOES morph into a LONG, slightly honied finish with a distinct tang. Could well improve thru '18, then drink through '21. VERY nicely done! My VG+/EXC-. 93 pts Tim Atkin, 92+ John Gilman, 92 WA, 90 WS, 89-91 ea Vinous & Burghound, "great" from Burgundy Report, and 16.5/20 Jancis Robinson. [This vendor's $39.95 is as good as any of wine-searcher's current listing.]

  • 2015 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Vieilles Vignes

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune

45 yr old vines mainly from the parcel Les Vermots Dessus

N: Closed; Vanilla/lemons with notes of minerals

P: LM, poss Med, body; Rndish entry with NICE frt/oak (80:20) quickly met by tart acidity which continues to drive the bus through the quite LONG, TANGY/swt finish. Fairly tight, so SHOULD improve, then drink into (& poss through) '21. My EXC- with potential for 1-2 notches higher. [This vendor's $33.95 would seem very competitive as the only other current wine-searcher source I could find required purchasing an entire cs for the same price!]

  • 2015 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Rully Vieilles Vignes

    France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Rully

55 yr old vines grown in clay & (predominantly) limestone soils in the village of Rully, in the Northern part of the Côte Chalonnaise, close to Santenay.

N: Closed; Notes of spice/toast with undertones of lemons?

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE oak/frt met by some VERY slightly harsh astringency which ULT softens as it morphs into the LONG, ult tangy finish with undertones of the mid-P bitterness. Might improve through Spring '18 -- or poss longer? My VG-, poss VG or even higher -- IF it improves. [Other than 1 source which is ~ $2 <, this vendor's $24.95 is very competitive.]

  • 2015 Domaine Frantz Chagnoleau Saint Véran Clos à la Côte

    France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Saint Véran

50+ year old vines (from the village of Chasselas), the soil having a clay and limestone base before hitting solid rock! Aged in older Burgundy barrels

    N: Lemons with mineral undertones?

P: MF, poss Med, body; RNDISH entry with nice frt duly balanced by acidity which carries the mail through the LONG, tangy/swt (70:30) finish with undertones of honey. Has the acidity to evolve positively IF the frt holds, My VG with potential for EXC-. [It's tough to evaluate this vendor's $29.95 since there are no other current wine-searcher listings.]

  • 2015 Domaine Michel Juillot Mercurey 1er Cru Clos des Barraults Blanc

France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey 1er Cru

Grapes, grown on clayey-limestone, marl clear gravel and pebbles clear on surface, planted in 1989 & 1995. Fermented in temp controlled oak barrels, aged 12 mos in oak barrels (25% new). Complete malolactic, fined before bottling.

N: Butter, vanilla, poss minerals? Lemons WAY underneath?

P: Med body; Rndish entry with nice oak/frt off-set by an ALMOST puckerish acidity which slowly evolves into a LONG, spicy/minerally finish with a tangy/swtness (70/30). Poss NEEDS another yr, then drinking through '21 easily. My EXC-/EXC. Gold Medal @ '17 Concours des vins de la Côte Chalonnaise. [Wine-searcher has no current U.S. listings to which to compare this vendor's $29.95. It is, however, 4 or $5 < than what others are charging for the '14.]

  • 2015 Domaine Dubois Bernard et Fils Savigny-lès-Beaune Blanc

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune

    N: Slightly closed; Lemons, toast

P: Med, poss LM, body; Rndish entry with NICE, almost swtish frt BEAUTIFULLY counterbalanced by acidity which slowly, almost seamlessly transitions into a LONG, tangy/swt (75:25) with a degree of minerality not found in others of this flight. DESERVES into if not through Fall '18, then very likely drinking well through '21. My VG+ with easily potential for full EXC down the line. [This vendor's $26.95 is at least $3 < anyone else currently listed on wine-searcher.]
