Introduction
Our Riesling-aficionado group is traveling for the first time this year.
Destination: the Pfalz.
Our football club is playing at Kaiserslautern, Betzenberg on saturday.
A reason to celebrate a wine weekend!
Seven men of our winegroup are travelling to Deidesheim.
We tasted some more bottlings on all three days, but I did not write down all of them.
Deidesheim is worth visiting and the estates located at or near by for sure, too.
Flight 1 - Day one, friday (17 Notes)
Flight 2 - Day two, saturday (17 Notes)
At the stadium of Kaiserslautern you can buy a dry white or red half liter of wine for an incomparably low price: 4,50€!
Not that tasty!
Flight 3 - Day three, sunday (5 Notes)
We started with a visit of Weingut Mehling.
We had some more bottlings of the entry level portfolio, this estate is selling their bottles with a very good QPR, to be highly recommended.
Later that day we visited the vinothek of Bassermann-Jordan and in the afternoon we returned to Hamburg by ICE.
No formal notes of B-J, but as well recommended.

A fine bottle, compared with the Poss Brut thisone is bonedry, a lot of chalk on the palate, some tasty raspberry, finesse and elegance, long+, ***(+- *), around 90- 91+ potential

Typical blanc de blanc champagne, bread crest, very creamy and elegant on the palate, finishes chalky with a good persistence, young, **(*- ?), 88+ potential

Still very fresh and young appearance, vibrating acid , enormous tension, very good for a more or less entry-level Riesling, finishes tight and very stony long, **(*-?), 88-90+?

Wow, another remarkable Riesling, needs a lot of air to blossom out, limy as limy can be, elegant energetic long, recommend to decant this wine if you like to enjoy now, *(**-?), 88-89+ potential

2016 Mathern Norheimer Dellchen Riesling Spätlese trocken

Tasted wines from this estate some time ago, always playing the lottery, a dry Dellchen should be a yellow fruit driven, deep and rich Riesling, thisone is nothing like this, lacking freshness, crispy energy and overall the Riesling tension, a little like a lame Riesling duck!

This bottle is a great surprise for our Riesling-group, really bonedry, well fruit driven, green apples, some zesty bread, a very champagne- like appearance, elegant and quite long, very good QPR, about 17€ per bottle, **(*-?), 89- 90+

Enormously fullbodied for a german Riesling, a very primary yellow fruit driven showing, this fruit is sumptuous ripe, 14% ABV, today I would prefer a more tight structure, I liked this wine much better some weeks ago, *(***-?)

Very concentrated for a Spätlese, this is more like a Auslese, apricot, mango, the whole palate of tropical fruit, honeycomb, ending dense, rich and balanced with a good supporting acidity, **(*-****), 90- 91+

Dosage ZERO! A lot of bonedry red fruit, raspberry in the foreground, a lot of yeasty aromas from the fermentation, great density but today way too young, will need some more years in the bottle, a great champagne like Rose, about 50€ per bottle, *(***-?), 92,93 potential

From Magnum at the winebar of Bürklin Wolf at Deidesheim, this is a bottle that shows all a mature Riesling can be, delicious rich stonefruit, fresh appearance, good supporting acid, deep and silky, gentle and tight, is opening up with more aeration to more complexity, really great bottle, ending very long, tasty now but in wellstored bottles will benefit from some more additional cellar time, ***(*-*****), 92, 93+ potential
