• 2014 Carlos Moro Toro Finca Valmediano

  Spain, Castilla y León, Toro

  Caramel of violets, with anthracite and licorice stick notes.
  The fruit is suffocated by those aromas. Really does not look like a Toro wine. I am sorry. At least the heat (15 ABV) is integrated.
  In the mouth it initially does not have the vigor and that runaway force. Only at the end does that energy appear, as accumulated as if it had been a battery-like.
  Stuff nothing memorable except another useful curiosity right now.
  
  Caramelito de violetas. Notas de antracita y de regaliz de palo.
  La fruta está sofocada por esos aromas. Realmente no parece un Toro. Lo siento. Al menos el alcohol (15%) está integrado.
  En boca inicialmente no tiene el vigor y esa fuerza desbocada. Solo al final aparece esa energía, como acumulada como si la hubiese reservado en plan batería.
  Nada memorable salvo otra curiosidad aprovechable ahora mismo.

• 2007 Bodegas Luis Cañas Rioja Hiru 3 Racimos

  Impeccable but honestly it does not look-smell-taste like a Rioja. At least classic style. It seems to be what our kids adore to call "an Atlantic wine". Predominate aromas of underbrush (lavender, thyme or rosemary). Some pastry cream, limestone and looking after looking for some black fruit.
  In a blind tasting this would have people arguing for hours.
  In the mouth I do not deny certain elegance but it is dense as a RdD, astringent as a Calatayud wine, short as a Manchego and with some coolness like some Moncayo wines, also for high alcohol (to follow in the same region Aragon).
  Can age? Honestly I don't care. Not my choice, sorry.
  
  Impecable pero sinceramente no parece un Rioja. Al menos de corte clásico. Parece hasta lo que los chiquitines denominan "un vino Atlántico". Predominan los aromas a sotobosque (lavanda, tomillo o romero). Algo de crema pastelera, roca caliza y buscando buscando algo de fruta negra.
  En una cata a ciegas esto tendría discutiendo a la gente durante horas.
  En boca no niego cierta elegancia pero es denso como un RdD, pelín astringente como un vino de Calatayud, corto como un manchego y con algo de frescor tipo vinos del Moncayo (por seguir en Aragón).
  ¿Puede envejecer más? Honestamente me la refanfinfla. Nunca mi elección.

• 2006 Costers del Siurana Priorat Clos de L'Obac

  Aristocratic on the nose, dense on the palate.
  Aristocratic yeah, but belonging to that timid nobility that finds hard to talk to the common people. After a while, there are memories of dark fruit and the imperishable slate. Also notes of stewed meat with mint. Everything well presented.
  In the mouth it has that same elegance but it lacks depth and it has plenty of heat. Tension completely disappeared and in its place the acidity has remained as the only and insufficient defender in front of the waves of density that shake your palate.
  Anyway, a beautiful example of the denomination maybe not in the best year.
  
  Aristocrático en nariz, denso al paladar.
  Aristocrático sí, pero de esa nobleza tímida a la que le cuesta hablar con el pueblo llano. Al año de un rato aparecen recuerdos a fruta negra y al imperecedero mineral de pizarra. También memorias de carne estofada con menta. Todo bien presentado.
  En boca tiene esa misma elegancia pero le falta profundidad y le sobra calor. La tensión desapareció totalmente y en su lugar la acidez se ha quedado como la única e insuficiente defensora frente a las oleadas de densidad que sacuden tu paladar.
  Como sea, un bello ejemplo de la denominación quizás no en el mejor año.
